It was a veritable slugfest in the first round of the Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball League playoffs, as Hurd Construction crushed Greenleaf Tree Service, 29-18, behind two-homer efforts from Bill Girard (one was a grand slam) and Scott Hurd (who was on base seven times).
Casey Trocolla banged out five hits while Mike Lancaster, Jack Huray and Kyle Trocolla hgad four hits each to fuel a 33-hit attack. Jay Edwards and Jim Muraski played well in the field.
In other action in the double-elimination tournament, Botsford Drive-In hammered Frankâs Barber Stylist, 23-8, as Trosan belted a homer. And the Inn At Newtown nipped G&H Tools, 11-10, thanks to a good game by Dom Salvatore.
This weekend, the playoffs continue with the Inn and Hurd Construction squaring off at 9:15 am at Dickinson Park. At 10:30 am, the winner will play Botsford Drive In. At Treadwell Park, Greentree and G&H Tools will battle at 9:15 am, with the winner playing the Dickinson Park Game 1 loser at 10:30 am.
The league will be off on Labor Day weekend and the playoffs will continue on Sunday, September 9.

JP Maguire came out hot in the first round of the Womenâs Slo-Pitch Softball League playoffs and pinned a 13-4 loss on 707 Main Street. Hilda DeLucia led the offense, as did Becky Osborne and Samantha Henkel. Sally Socci and Suzanne Davenport paced the defense.
