Boys/Girls’ E Division

Tigersharks 10, Yankees 0: Gregory Hill scored three goals while Stephen Sapienza had two to lead the ‘Sharks to the win. Bobby Davenport, Anthony Florez, Evan Gregoire, Jason Hanna and Brandon McQuinn also scored. For the Yankees, Michele Koury, Anna LoPiccilo and Kelsey Philips all played well.

Boys’ E Division

Flash 3, Wolfpack 2: Thaddeus Adams scored twice and Kurt Nacewicz once to lead the Flash to the win. Andrew Pezzulo and Ben Cruson anchored a strong defensive effort. For the Wolfpack, Michael Hahn scored both goals with Henry Sims supporting. Danny Curtis and Greg Larnerd had good games on defense.

Wildcats 2, Tornadoes 1: Brian Reszoly and Michael Cagganello each scored a goal to lead the Wildcats past the Tornadoes. For the Tornadoes, Steve Musco scored and Conner Stauffer played well in net.

Girls’ E Division

Dragons 4, Yankees 1: Christina Sanchez, Katie Rose McNulty, Melissa Painter and Kendra O’Connor all scored to lead the Dragons over the Yankees. For the Yankees, Brittany Paskl scored as Hannah Tannenbaum and Joanna Berry played well.

Tigers 0, Timberwolves 0: Very strong midfield and defensive play on both sides thwarted a number of scoring opportunities. The Tiger’s midfielder, Jennifer Blauvelt dominated the center, while Carolyn Gingras in defense and Kelly McPhee in goal formed an impenetrable wall against the Timberwolves’ attack. The Timberwolves’ Jessica Neufeld and Jacqueline Schulz pressed a strong attack, backed up by the fine defensive play of Jennifer Iassogna.

Hurricanes 3, Wildcats 1: Laura Konkos, Gina Bonacci and Megan Hansen scored the goals that lifted the Hurricanes to the win. Jennifer Durelli played well. For the ‘Cats, Shayna Mesko scored the goal as Emily Boncek and Gabby Nastri both had strong games.

Strikers 5, Nightmares 1: Allison Kurk and Alicia Kulp led the offense while Diana Bowen led the defense as the Strikers upended the Nightmares. For the ‘Mares, Lisa Alberico, Melissa Mason, Alev Hoolihan and Jackie Ercole all did a great job.

Boys’ F Division

Sensation 4, Eagles 2: Jason Kostecki scored a pair of goals while Connor Collier and Daniel Quinn scored solo goals to lead the Sensation back from a 2-0 deficit to the win. Stephen Forgione played well on defense. For the Eagles, Brendan Deveney and Ben Mahoney scored the goals. Jon Gouveia and Tim Dalton had strong games as well.

Lasers 4, Torpedoes 3: Tony Vacaro, Jacob Dauz, Matt Iassogna and Ralph Sergiovanni all scored as the Lasers sank the Torpedoes. Kyle Griesse and Adam Buccino were strong on defense. For the Torpedoes, Chris Roberto, Steve Musco and Patrick Stein all scored.

Roadrunners 6, Bulls 1: Michael Runger scored theee goals and Joseph Capiello scored two to lead the Roadrunners past the Bulls. Drew Woods also scored. Michael Notaro and Ian Mason provided tough defense. For the Bulls, Kevin O’Connell, Colton Boyd, Michael Daley and Michael Cox all played well.

Girls’ F Division

Tornadoes 3, Bombers 1: Sarah Feinstein scored a pair of goals and Chelsea Fay had one as the Tornadoes upended the Bombers. Molly Day and Denise Branecky sparked the tenacious Tornado defense. For the Bombers, Kasey Schulz scored the lone goal while Katie Pessin, Leigh Gerety and Nicole Vournazos played well on defense.

Dolphins 4, Tigers 2: Tanya Domingos scored a pair of first-quarter goals to launch the Dolphins towards a win. Danielle Norris and Melissa Scheiber scored one goal apiece with good defense coming from Ashley Soucar. For the Tigers, Olivia Dillion and Tori Boushell each scored a goal in the second hald with strong support coming from Natalie Villa and Stephanie Sanchez.

Dolphins 5, Timberwolves 2: Tanya Domingoes scored four goals as the Dolphins defeated the Timberwolves. Danielle Norris added a solo goal. Lundsey Burns and Ashley Soucar both played well. For the T-Wolves, Haley Keane and Emily Weber both scored while Rebecca Castegner and Nicki Butler were solid on defense.

Boys’ U10 Travel

Aftershock 2, Watertown 1: Brendan Martin and Connor Martin scored second-half goals to lift the ‘Shock to the win. Ryan Drummond, Dave Wilkens and goalie Adam Margulies repelled a well-organized Watertown attack.

Aftershock 1, Southbury 1: Collin Babbage scored the lone goal in the final seconds to lift the ‘Shock into a tie with Southbury. Eddie Gaddis, Jimmy Gaston and PJ Cochrane all played well on offense.

Danbury 2, Aftershock 0: Adam Margulies made numerous nice saves in goal, but he couldn’t hold up to a strong Danbury team. Collin Babbage and Sean Ryan continually pressed Danbury’s defense throughout the match.

Vipers 2, New Fairfield 0: Danny and Jason Smith were strong on defense and helped lead the Vipers to the win. Danny Smith and Drew Taylor shared the shutout in net. Justin Miller scored a pair of goals. Alex Bowen, Kevin Davies, Kevin Troy, and Ryan Wilson all played well.

Girls’ U10 Travel

New Fairfield, Navigators 2: Harriet Morgan scored a pair of goals, but the Navigators couldn’t hold off New Fairfield. Julie Landin assisted on a goal. Tenacious defense by Jaclyn Petrasanta and solid goalkeeping by Ashley Braun held New Fairfield scoreless in the second half.

Southbury 4, Navigators 0: Bethany Morin made several key first-half saves and smothering defense by Christie Attansio and Dana Schunter kept the game deadlocked until late in the second half. Rachel Maley played well at both ends of the field.

Boys’ U12 Travel

Knights 6, New Haven 3 (State Cup): Jonathan Hartlett scored three goals, two in the final minutes of the second half, to lead the Knights to send the game into overtime. Marc Doherty, Tom Wilson, Will Brooks and Scott Kohn were strong on defense and allowed the Knights to come back from a late 3-1 deficit. In the OT, Barrett, Hoagland and Hartlett all scored to seal the win.

Knights 1, New Milford 1: Jonathan Hartlett scored the lone goal in a 1-1 tie with New Milford.

Knights 4, Brookfield 3: Newtown fought off a late Brookfield rally to win and stay undefeated in league play. The Knights used ball control to frustrate the opposition and open up numerous scoring opportunities. Chris Hoagland put two in the net, David McGlaughin and Alister Ratcliff each added one in the victory.

Newtown Knights 5, Southbury 1: The Knights took on rival Southbury and the cool night air brought out the speed of Alister Ratcliff. Ratcliff exploded for three goals to send Southbury backpeddling towards defeat. Midfielders Kugielski, Kearns, Meisel and Lipnick kept constant offensive pressure with expert ball control and perfect passing that allowed Barrett and Meisel to total two more goals in the convincing win.

Girls’ U11 Travel

Glastonbury 3, Nitros 2 (State Cup): After dominating much of the play through regulation and overtime, the Nitros lost out after two painstaking rounds of penalty kicks. Tremendous effort was put forth by the entire team. Rachael Perretta provided outstanding defense all over the field, while scores were contributed by Kyla Miles and Nicole Sieber. Shannon Kirch and Erica Vacaro shared time in the goal; Maggie DeMarco mastered the job for the p.k. rounds.

Nitros 5, Danbury 0:With solid defensive play by Kristene Salbu, and strong offensive support by Lindsay Weber, the Nitros took a decisive win over Danbury. Scoring was shared by Nicole Sieber, Kyla Miles, Maggie DeMarco, Meredith Palo and Rose Jackman. Assists were provided by Miles, Kristi Nowak, Sieber, and Erica Vacaro.

Girls’ U12 Travel

Trumbull 2, Rockets 0 (State Cup): Tara Gaston had an awesome game in goal, thwarting scoring attempts by Trumbull (one of the favored teams to win the State title) in State Cup play. The Rockets’ offense, powered by Mary Anders, Siobhan Cooper and Alex Konneker, dominated the ball for the entire first half. Midfielders Mary Grace Ober, Maria Cinquegrana and Jill Tanner provided a solid second wave to keep the ball at Trumbull’s door. But the Rockets were unable to score. The second half brought the heartbreaking defeat to the Rockets when, just twice, the defense couldn’t stop a fired-up and determined Trumbull offense.

Rockets 8, New Milford 0: The Rockets are definitely on a roll in league play! Maria Cinquegrana, Siobhan Cooper and Tori Thomas shared goal-time in the Rockets’ fourth shut-out in a row. Tara Gaston and Mary Grace Ober had two goals apiece. Mary Anders, Emily Fields, Kayla Mesko (penalty kick), and Megan Rawson also scored. Christie Zingoni also had a great offensive game.

Girls’ U13 Travel

Fairfield 2, Knockouts 1 (State Cup): The Knockouts lost a close State Cup game to Fairfield despite a goal from Kaitlyn Fenton, great midfield play from Kristen Davis and Kelly Corrigan, and strong defense from Katie O’Connor, Ashley LaRocque, and Tara Ryan.

Knockouts 7, New Milford 1: Caitlin Weber scored a pair of goals while Megan Regnery, Amy Doyle, Amanda Shevlin, Quincey Blanchard and Emma Mueller all scored solo goals to lead the Knockouts to the win.

Boys’ U14 Travel

Strikers 2, Southbury 1: David Kugieslky, Sean Rawson and Peter Dittmar anchored the Striker midfield as Newtown netted two first-half goals. Patrick Kiely and Matthew McFadden pushed the offensive attack as Michael Vanasse – off an assist from Ryan Tapline – scored the opener. Brian Smith later added the second goal. Devon Manfredonia was strong on defense, holding off Southbury.
