US Army Air Corps World War II Veteran
Frank W. Harrington, 85, of Southbury, previously of Cranston, R.I. and Easton, died August 22, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Born in Dayville, Conn., May 27, 1925, he was the son of Beatrice (Sheldon) Harrington and George W. Harrington.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley I. (Cornell) Harrington. Five children, including Frank C. Harrington of Newtown, and his wife, Marci, and David L. Harrington of Newtown; a sister; ten grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and cherished family friend James Ross, survive Mr Harrington. He was predeceased by three brothers.
Mr Harrington, an avid Red Sox fan, was employed as a sales engineer for more than 35 years at the General Electric Company.
He enjoyed playing banjo and entertained President Ronald Reagan at the White House, and many dignitaries at the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, when he played with the Easton Banjo Society.
Mr Harrington was a Mason for more than 50 years.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 1, at 11:30 am, in the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, with burial following at Quassett Cemetery in Woodstock. Calling hours are from 10:30 until 11:30 am, that day.
