Summer Baseball Academy
Newtown High School Baseball coach Matt Memoli will run two weeks of the Summer Baseball Academy at the Newtown High baseball field. The camp sessions will run on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday, June 26 through July 2, and Monday through Friday, July 8-12 — 9 am to noon each day.
All instructors are high school or college coaches, or graduating seniors on the Newtown high School baseball team. Players 5-11 years old receive comprehensive baseball instruction of all aspects of the game. Players are provided with the opportunity to get the most work in as possible through an active approach. The camp includes various types of instruction and learning experiences, and a player to coach ratio at a maximum of six players for every instructor. Attendees will receive an intense workout and will learn the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, and base running. Players will also take part in instructional and live games each day. Players will develop a positive mental attitude; learning self-confidence, work ethic, and discipline.
Memoli will also run a Middle School Baseball Academy, which is designed specifically for the middle school baseball player, to develop the skills necessary to perform at the next level. Players will learn hitting, fielding, and base running fundamentals from Newtown High School Baseball coaches and area high school/college coaches. Players will also receive position-specific work and instruction, along with learning the importance of confidence in baseball. The Middle School Academy is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, June 26 through July 2 from 9 am to noon.
