James Albert Bain, age 81, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Redding, died Wednesday, April 8, exactly seven years to the day of his wife Arlene Nichols Bainâs death.
Survivors include grandchild Danielle Burr of Sandy Hook.
Born in Bridgeport, the son of Alfred and Matilda Bain, he had been a resident of Redding for more than 40 years prior to moving to Florida in 1995. He graduated from Bullard Havens Technical School in Bridgeport and served in the US Army from 1946 to 1947 in Japan during the postwar occupation.
His career as a heavy equipment and crane operator spanned more than 40 years where he worked primarily in the Bridgeport-Fairfield region. He was a member for more than 45 years of International Union of Operating Engineer Local 478. Mr Bain served as first assistant fire chief for the Redding Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Fairfield Elks Lodge 2220. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time outdoors and with his family. Among his survivors are three children, two grandchildren including Danielle, a great-grandson, a sister, and brother, and several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his loyal friends with whom he enjoyed regular fraternizing at the Elks Round Table in Pompano Beach. A funeral service was held Monday, April 13 in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, Fairfield.
