Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps is looking for people of all ages interested in obtaining their certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT). NVAC is teaming up with Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department to present the class, which will begin on Tuesday, May 14.
The class will run approximately three months. It will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 and a number of Saturdays.
This is a State of Connecticut-approved training course that includes classroom, lectures, practical training, CPR certification, patient assessment skills, treatment of medical conditions and injury related events, lifting and moving techniques, medical documentation, emergency medical services operations, emergency room observation, and clinical time riding with Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members.
Upon completion of the course material and classroom sessions, students will take a State of Connecticut written and practical test.
Cost is $600 for classroom and clinical hours.
Students must be 16 years of age before completion of the course.
Registration is open now through Sunday, May 12, for anyone interested in applying for the class. Applications are also being taken at the Ambulance Building at 77 Main Street.
Newtown Ambulance members are also willing to answer questions about serving the community as an EMT.
