Ridge Road Crash

Police report a one-vehicle accident early on the morning of August 24 on Ridge Road.

Motorist Gregory Darling, 22, of 12 Brookwood Drive was driving northbound on Ridge Road when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a right curve, police said. Darling went off the road and struck a tree, police said. Darling received minor injuries in the accident, according to police. Police said Darling failed to drive to the right on a curve. He has a September 7 answer date in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant Arrest

Police said they charged Aaron Borchetta, 21, of 27 Mt Pleasant Road on a warrant August 23 on two counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

The arrest stems from Borchetta’s allegedly damaging several mailboxes in the Pheasant Ridge Road area on July 13, police said. Borchetta turned himself in at the police station after learning of the warrant, police said. Police released him on a $100 bond for an August 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Burglary/Larceny

Police report they have charged three youths with burglary and larceny in connection with a March 26 incident at Dodgingtown Garage in Dodgingtown.

Police charged each of the three youths with third degree burglary, which is a felony, and also with fifth-degree larceny.

Charged are: Christopher Evans, 16, of 25 Rock Ridge Road; Kevin Yacko, 17, of 22 Hyvue Road; and Jason Palinkas, 18, of Danbury.

In the March incident, motor vehicle parts were stolen from a vehicle parked outside Dodgingtown Garage, police said.

Palinkas is scheduled for a September 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court. Evans and Yacko are scheduled for September 12 appearances.

DUI Charge

Police said they saw motorist Jennifer E. Guertin, 21, of Providence, R.I., driving erratically northbound on Elm Drive early on the morning of August 26.

Police said they saw Guertin cross the center of the road numerous times while traveling in the area between Brushy Hill Road and Hawley Lane. Police said they stopped Guertin and smelled alcohol on her breath, after which they gave her field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Police charged Guertin with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.

After processing, police released her for a September 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Drug Paraphernalia

Police said they were conducting a sobriety checkpoint late on the night of August 25 on South Main Street, near Borough Lane, when they observed motorist Roy Gless, 18, of Bridgeport, who had been driving northbound on South Main Street, make a U-turn and then drive southbound on that street. Police said they pursued Gless and stopped him near the Fireside Inn, about one mile south of the U-turn which he had made.

On investigating, police said they smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from Gless’ vehicle. Police said they found two marijuana pipes with residual amounts of marijuana in them.

Police said they charged Gless with possession of drug paraphernalia. Gless was released for a September 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

 

Collision

Police said motorist Dominic Gillen, 23, of New Preston, who was driving a 1995 Toyota pickup truck which was hauling a trailer, was stopped a red traffic signal on southbound Route 25 at its intersection with Route 6 on August 24, and was waiting for the light to turn green so that he could turn left onto Route 6.

In order the see the traffic signal, Gillen backed up, but in doing so, he backed into a 2001 Nissan X-Terra sport-utility vehicle driven by Victoria Dinielli, 38, of 11 Briarwood Lane, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Gillen for unsafe backing.

U-Turn

Police report that while conducting a sobriety checkpoint late on the night of August 25 on South Main Street near Borough Lane, they spotted northbound motorist Vanessa A. Judd, 43, of Danbury approach the checkpoint and then make a U-turn on South Main Street.

Police said they stopped Judd and investigated, charging her with making a restricted turn and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Police released Judd for a September 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Checkpoint

At a sobriety checkpoint on the night of August 25, police stopped motorist Dennis Hardison, 42, of Bridgeport and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.

Police released Hardison for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

High Rock Crash

Police report a one-car accident on August 25 at the intersection of New Lebbon Road and High Rock Road in Sandy Hook.

Police said motorist Kevin Crane, 18, of 192 Hanover Road was driving a 1993 Buick Regal eastbound on New Lebbon Road and did not stop at a stop sign at that road’s intersection with High Rock Road, skidding through the intersection and landing in a ditch along High Rock Road. Crane was not injured, police said. Police issued Crane an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign.

I-84 Collision

State police report that motorist George R. Anderson, Jr, 30, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Nissan Maxima westbound on Interstate 84 near Exit 11 about 7 am August 25, when he was traveling too fast and lost control of the auto, striking guardrailing along the highway.

MV Stop

Police said they stopped motorist David W. Malkin, 38, of 44 Tomahawk Trail, Sandy Hook, about 9 am August 27 when they saw him driving on Church Hill Road without wearing a seatbelt.

Police stopped Malkin on the Exit 10 on-ramp of westbound Interstate 84 and investigated. Police charged Malkin with a seatbelt violation, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police released Malkin for a September 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

 

Paintball Vandalism

Newtown police report they charged four Newtown High School students with vandalism counts on the afternoon of August 29 following incidents in Newtown, near the Monroe town line.

Police patrol officer Michael Edis said he received a report about 4:18 pm that a group of young people were driving in a red sedan in the area of Pine Tree Hill Road and Pastor’s Walk and shooting paintballs from a paintball gun at houses and parked vehicles there.

Police received a description of the red Oldsmobile sedan and its marker plate number from an area resident, after which they went to the vehicle owner’s residence, where they found the auto. Police said they found a garden hose nearby, which was being used to wash the orange paintball paint off the red car.

Police said they charged the driver of the auto, Kristen Grimaldi, 17, of 26 Paugussett Road, Sandy Hook, with two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, one count of reckless endangerment, and one count of conspiracy.

Police lodged the same charges against the other three youths who were passengers in the car. Charged are: Timothy Knapp, 16, of 115 Edge Lake Drive, Sandy Hook; Justin Harding, 16, of 50 Orchard Hill Road; and Alexander Rode, 16, of 25 Pine Tree Hill Road.

After they charged the four youths, Newtown police turned them over to Monroe police, who charged the four in connection with vandalism which was done in nearby Monroe, Newtown police said.

The four youths were released from custody and are scheduled to appear September 13 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges stemming from activity in Newtown. The four are scheduled to appear September 6 in Bridgeport Superior Court in connection with charges stemming from activity in Monroe.
