Folk Ballads And Traditional Dance Music At Sticks And Stones Farm

Fiddlers Caitlin Finley of Philadelphia and Andrew Boyd of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, return for the second time to Sticks and Stones Farm, 201 Huntingtown Road, for the Mossy Banks Irish Concert Series, Friday, October 21, at 7 pm.

Although barely 20 years old, Ms Finley is already a skilled veteran of countless sessions, feis, and fleadh competitions and is one of the most highly regarded young fiddlers on the East Coast. A former Irish dancer, she started learning fiddle locally at the age of 8. Her later fiddle teachers include Brendan Callahan and Brian Conway, both considered to be among the best Irish fiddlers in the United States. Now a student at Columbia University, Ms Finely has firmly established herself in Irish music circles in New York City.

Mr Boyd grew up surrounded by the folk music of the Scottish diaspora of Cape Breton. As an undergraduate he spent two years in Japan absorbing their traditional folk melodies. These days he is occupied exploring the endless creativity of New England’s Irish community.

The fiddlers will be joined by special guest, singer and guitarist Jefferson Hamer. Based in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr Hamer is recently returned from a tour of Iceland and Nova Scotia. He has performed his original and traditional music at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and other folk venues. Mr Hamer is currently recording an album of 19th Century English and Scottish Ballads collected by Francis James Child.

Admission to the Mossy Banks Irish Concert Series is $10. Warm Irish soda bread will be served.

RSVP to 203-270-8820.
