Alton L. Decker
Alton L. Decker, 80, husband of the late Mary (Connerty) Decker of 88 Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown, died May 3 in his home.
He was the father of Nancy M. Belanger of Newtown.
He was born in Portland, Ore., July 13, 1919, son of the late Alton and Margaret (Williams) Decker. A resident of Newtown three years, he had previously lived in Bridgeport. He was last employed as a mechanic for Industrial Trucks Company in New Haven. A veteran of World War II, he served as staff sergeant in the US Air Force. Mr Decker saw action in Normandy, Rhineland, and Central Europe, and was awarded a Distinguished Unit Badge. He was a member of the Ansonia Post VFW, the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 73 in Milford, the Big Six Bowling League, and the Teamsters Union.
He is also survived by two sons, Christopher Decker of Waterbury and Philip Decker of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Mary Urban of Centralia, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Newtown Methodist Church, Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, on Friday, May 5, at 9:30 am. Interment will be in St Michael Cemetery, Stratford, at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Thursday, May 4, from 6 to 8 pm.
