Marie Joyce Maki

Marie Joyce (Briscoe) Maki, 80, of Newtown, died peacefully at home, July 14. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were by her side. Born in Stamford, September 29, 1931, she was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Grace (Harris) Briscoe.

She will be greatly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Douglas Jack Maki. Her daughters and husbands, Karen and James Varian, June and Timothy Frost, Eileen and Douglas Frattaroli, and Linnea and Michael Hushion, all of Newtown; sons, Daniel Maki of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Matthew Maki of Monroe; beloved sisters, Eileen Hain and her husband, Donald, of Cornwall and Jeanne Rudisill of Greenwich; their children; and her 17 grandchildren survive Mrs Maki. Two sons, Douglas J. Maki, Jr and John Joseph Maki preceded her in death.

Mrs Maki graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Stamford, and attended New Haven State Teacher’s College. Her greatest joy in life was to be with her husband and family. She enjoyed traveling and spent many wonderful times in Maine, Cape Cod, and the upper peninsula of Michigan with her family.

She was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the UConn Huskies Women’s basketball teams.

Her family remembers her as the most loving, caring and giving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 19. Interment will be private.
