Female Pedestrian Struck In

Hit-and-Run Collision

By Andrew Gorosko

Police are investigating the second local hit-and-run collision within a ten-day period in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and lay injured as the offending motorist drove off.

About 9:45 pm October 27, pedestrian Jessica Oltmann, 23, of 301 South Main Street was walking northward across a driveway/parking area at that address, when she heard a loud vehicle traveling near her and then turned to see where it was located, police said.

Ms Oltmann was then struck on her left side by what is believed to be a dark-colored sport utility vehicle, which then drove off northward on South Main Street without stopping, police said.

The impact occurred about 50 to 75 feet off the northbound road shoulder of South Main Street. The accident occurred at the Bay Colony Mobile Home Park.

The victim received a facial cut, contusions, and muscular strain in the accident, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps staffers responded to the scene and transported Ms Oltmann to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Ms Oltmann was treated for her injuries at the hospital emergency room and then released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Botsford firefighters were dispatched to aid at the accident scene. The Botsford firehouse at 315 South Main Street is near the mobile home park.

Police ask anyone with information on the identity of the offending SUV driver to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888. Officer Gary Wheeler is investigating.

Besides the October 27 hit-and-run accident in Botsford, police are continuing their investigation into an October 17 incident in which an 8-year-old boy who was crossing Queen Street was struck by a vehicle which then drove off.

In that incident, the Newtown boy, who was visiting a friend, was crossing Queen Street, near its intersection with Borough Lane, at about 6:33 pm, when what is believed to be a blue Volkswagen struck the boy and then continued southward on Queen Street without stopping.

Ambulance staffers transported the boy to Danbury Hospital where he was treated for damage to his right leg, left ankle and calf, plus facial abrasions and contusions, police have said.

Similarly, police are asking anyone with information on the identity of the offending motorist in the October 17 hit-and-run collision to contact them.
