Christmas Is Coming To Kindergarten
Christmas Is Coming
To Kindergarten
By Susan Coney
Judging by all the hustle and bustle going on in the kindergarten classes at St Rose School last Friday afternoon, there is no doubt that Christmas is coming. The youngsters in Kristine Benton and Tamra Russoâs classrooms were busy getting into the holiday spirit by decorating gingerbread houses, pasting together red and green paper chains, and making paper plate holiday wreaths.
Lots of parent volunteers were nearby to help out with some of the stickier projects, helping to keep all the festivities running smoothly. As small groups of children worked intensely on making Christmas decorations others, waiting for their turn, were kept busy playing religious bingo, listening to Clement Clarke Mooreâs Night Before Christmas, and singing Christmas carols.
The children must have been working very hard lately because hanging behind every tiny classroom chair was a pair of angel wings. Parent volunteer Christine Wolf explained, âThe children had to earn their angel wings by doing good deeds.â Whether it was to earn those angel wings or the hopes that Santa would be extra generous, every chair held a pair of glittery wings.
With a wink of an eye it was easy to see that kindergarteners at St Rose School were delighted by the wide variety of traditional holiday activities the teachers and parent volunteers provided for them.
