Cub Scout Pack 270 Launches Townwide Scarecrow Hunt
Newtown Cub Scout Pack 270 launched a new event this year with its annual scarecrow pack meeting, held October 14. Each of the packâs nine dens have made a scarecrow that will be displayed around town.
Game cards will be given out at each location listed, or they may be downloaded from the pack website (pack270.org). Children can visit each of the nine locations, pick up a game card, and receive a sticker for each scarecrow found.
One of the scarecrows is located at Andreaâs Pastry Shop, which is offering a free treat with the visit. After the entire game card is filled, Andreaâs is offering an additional six free treats to those who return to the Queen Street bakery.
Scarecrows and game cards are also located at Ace Hardware, Fun Kuts, Katherineâs Kitchen, The Learning Experience, The Meat House, My Place Restaurant , Newtown Deli, and Newtown Hardware.
The scarecrows will be displayed until October 31, which is also the last day to claim free treats. The event is open to the entire town.
John Boccuzzi, Cub Scoutmaster for Pack 270, is hoping to create awareness about the scouting program in town with a fun event, while at the same time promoting local businesses by driving traffic to them.
Pack 270 is based at Middle Gate School, and recruited 29 new Cub Scouts this year for a total of 62 active Cub Scouts in nine dens.
