The Winter Color Guard

To the Editor:

On behalf of the entire Newtown Varsity Winter Color Guard, I would like to thank all the people of Newtown and surrounding areas for their generous donations during our recent “Shake-A-Can” fundraiser that took place over the past four weeks. I would also like to thank Stop & Shop, Ace Hardware, Newtown Hardware, Newtown Deli, Bagel Delight, Sandy Hook Diner, The General Store, Pizza Palace, My Place, Carminuccio’s Pizza, and Newtown Color Center, who allowed our guard members to use their establishments as a base to shake their cans. A special thank you goes out to Ed at Ace Hardware for his extremely generous financial donation.

The proceeds from this event will be used to defray the costs of our trip to the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, in April. Last year, Newtown placed 18th out of 98 in their class; quite an accomplishment! Our seven-time, First Place MAC Champions will be hosting their Color Guard Home Show, which includes 37 talented guards, on Saturday, June 26, at Newtown High School. Please mark your calendar as it is a wonderful way to spend some quality family time and to see all three Newtown guards perform live.
