Police Reports, March 25-April 6, 2015
Six Felonies
Police said they charged William Bruno, 45, of Newtown on a warrant at Danbury Superior Court on April 6, lodging four counts of violation of a protective order and two counts of criminal attempt to violate a protective order. All six charges are felonies
Bruno was arraigned in court that day and pleaded not guilty to all six charges. The six crimes allegedly occurred in May 2014.
Bruno is scheduled to return to court on April 27. Bruno is serving a seven-year sentence at Cheshire Correctional Institution on three convictions for sex-related crimes.
Honda Vs Chevy
During heavy traffic conditions at about 3 pm on March 25, motorist Shannon Halters, 34, of 55-A Scudder Road was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu sedan northward near 76 South Main Street, when the Chevrolet was struck from behind by northbound motorist Christian Holm-Hansen, 16, of Easton, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated Halters at the scene, police said. Police report they verbally warned Holm-Hansen for following too closely.
Two Warrants
Newtown police said they learned that state police late on March 30 had located Jeffrey Swan, 34, of West Haven for whom Newtown police held an arrest warrant.
Swan was transported to the Newtown police station where police arrested him on a charge of fourth-degree larceny in connection with a 2014 incident in which he allegedly withheld $1,450 from a previous employer, police said.
Also, police arrested Swan on a separate warrant on a charge of first-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past incident in East Haven, police said.
Newtown police said that after arrest processing, they released Swan on bail for an April 16 court appearance.
DUI Arrest
Police report that motorist David Schivera, 56, of Woodbury, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck eastward on Wasserman Way, near Reed Intermediate School, about 8:30 pm on April 3, when the truck crossed over the road’s center line and then went off the westbound road shoulder, where it struck a utility pole and some fencing.
There were no injuries. Police said they investigated and then charged Schivera with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.
Following arrest processing, Schivera was released on $100 bail for an April 16 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
Drug Charges
Police said they received a report about 4:30 am on April 3 concerning suspicious activity occurring near the end of Chimney Swift Drive, which is a dead-end street extending from Riverside Road, so they went to that area to investigate.
Newtown police said they called in Monroe police and Monroe police’s dog for aid in the investigation.
Newtown police said they located Miles Dobbrow, 20, of 12 Pole Bridge Road, after which they investigated and charged Dobbrow with possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After processing, police released Dobbrow on $1,000 non-surety bail for an April 21 court appearance.
Vehicular Violations
Police report that motorist Arodis Lescler Herrera Garcia, 47, of Waterbury was driving southward on South Main Street, in the vicinity of its intersection with Ethan Allen Road, early on the morning of April 4, when Garcia failed to keep to the right, so police stopped the vehicle to investigate.
Police charged Garcia with failure to drive to the right, driving without a license, and misuse of marker plates. Garcia was released on a written promise to appear in court to answer the charges, police said.
I-84 DUI
State police said they responded to eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, at about 12:48 am on April 4, after receiving a report of a motor vehicle accident having occurred in that area.
State police said they located the accident and investigated. The driver, Jeffrey Magnano, 43, of 168 Walnut Tree Hill Road, was not injured, according to state police.
Magnano was charged with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Magnano was released on $500 bail for an April 13 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court, according to state police.
Tractor-Trailer Crash
State police report an accident on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit11, which involved an auto and a tractor-trailer truck at about 9:50 pm on April 2.
State police said tractor-trailer truck driver Brian Simpson, 30, of Earlville, Md., was driving a 2015 Freightliner in the left lane of three lanes, and then attempted to enter the center lane, but collided with motorist Jaqueline Troyer, 21, of Conroe, Texas, who was driving a 2006 Honda Accord in the center lane.
There were no injuries. Simpson received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane, state police said.
I-84 Accident
State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Tunnel Road overpass, at about 10 am on April 1.
Motorist Julissa Carrasquillo, 22, of Danbury was driving a 2003 Honda Civic in the right lane of three lanes and then attempted to merge into the center lane, as the right lane ended, state police said, adding the Honda then collided with a 2010 Volvo truck driven by Sorin Apostuio, 31, of Largo, Fla., which had been traveling in the center lane.
There were no injuries. Carrasquillo received an infraction for making an unsafe lane change, state police said.
Interstate Collision
At about 5:30 pm on March 31 on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, motorist Denise Canale, 43, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Kayleigh Roy, 24, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry, state police said.
There were no injuries. Roy received a written warning for following too closely, state police said.
Truck Vs Car
On eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, at about 11:26 pm on March 31, trucker Paul Nonnemaker, 68, of Bethlehem, Penn., who was driving a 2015 Freightliner truck in the left lane of two lanes, attempted to merge into the right lane, but struck a 1996 Subaru Legacy being driven in the right lane by Steven Kopnicky, 53, of 89 Castle Meadow Road, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said that Nonnemaker performed improper passing.
Two Pickups
Police report an accident involving two pickup trucks on Poverty Hollow Road, near its intersection with Wentworth Drive, at about 3:17 pm on April 3.
Police said motorist Matthew Roberto, 37, of 3 Elana Lane was diving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup northward on Poverty Hollow Road and then crossed the road’s center line, colliding with southbound motorist Keith Manca, 41, of 7 Wentworth Drive, who was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The two vehicles’ exterior, left rear-view mirrors made contact, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Roberto a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
