Naugatuck Man Arrested On Four Charges

Police report they arrested a Naugatuck man on a warrant on four charges on October 5 at Danbury Superior Court in connection with a motor vehicle incident that occurred on Berkshire Road in Newtown on July 15.

Police said that at about 6:40 am on July 15, they stopped motorist Wayne Conroy, 40, for a motor vehicle violation on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Stone Bridge Trail.

Conroy provided false information in seeking to identify himself as his brother, police said. While his true identity was being determined by police, Conroy drove away from the spot where police had stopped him, police said.

Conroy continued driving away although two police sought to stop him. Newtown police then notified other police departments in the region that Conroy had fled from them.

Later that morning, about 10:22 am, Watertown police took Conroy into custody in Watertown after apprehending him following a brief foot chase, Newtown police said.

Since that apprehension, Conroy has been held in custody by the state Department of Correction (DOC). He was listed as a prisoner on October 7 in Bridgeport Correctional Center where he is serving a six-month sentence on a conviction for second-degree failure to appear in court.

On October 7, Newtown police arrested Conroy on the warrant on charges of speeding, driving with a suspended license, engaging police in pursuit, and interfering with police in connection with the July 15 incident on Berkshire Road. Conroy is scheduled to again appear in court on those charges on October 19.
