With Judd Baggett rapping a pair of two-run doubles and Max Muraskiewicz going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI, The Newtown Bee had just about all the offense it needed to capture the Newtown Babe Ruth AAA championship on Tuesday night.

But it got more.

Lots more.

The Bee put together an 11-hit attack and rolled past J&J Pools, 15-4, in a game that had its fair share of exciting moments.

Like Kurt Nacewicz of the Bee banging a leadoff triple in the first inning . . . like catcher Mike Poeltl of the Bee pegging Chris Voight of J&J Pools out at second in the bottom of the first . . . like shortstop Matt Narel of J&J Pools making a brilliant scoop and throw to nail Poeltl at first in the third inning.

It was a good game, but it was the Bee that took home the championship.

The Bee opened with three runs in the first inning, thanks to that leadoff triple by Nacewicz and a two-run single by Jeff Selezan. J&J Pools answered back in the bottom of the frame, though, on four consecutive singles by Ricky Gallucci, Jason Kostecki, John Aminti and Voight.

But the Bee scored five runs in the second inning and seven more in the fourth inning to put the game away.

Baggett collected his two-run doubles in those innings while Muraskiewicz tripled in the second and banged out a two-run single in the fourth. Nacewicz finished up 3-for-4 with an RBI while Jeff Selezan was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.

But there’s more. Poeltl and Brian Carroll both had singles for the Bee and Joe Selezan was on base three times – once on an error, once on a walk, and once after he got plunked in the neck with a high-and-tight fastball.

On the mound, Muraskiewicz and Nacewicz pitched four innings of six-hit ball, combining for eight strikeouts. Muraskiewicz pitched the first three innings and Nacewicz came on in the fourth, striking out the side.

Aminti led the J&J offense, going 2-for-2 with a single and a triple – the triple being a long shot to the base of the right centerfield wall. Mike Hajzer added a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second inning.

The Newtown Bee reached the AAA finals by beating Newtown Hardware, 5-3, in the quarter-finals and Newtown Limousine, 10-2, in the semi-finals.

Against Newtown Hardware, Nacewicz and Zach Gordon banged out two hits apiece, and Baggett played solid defense at second. Against Newtown Limo, Gino Dilorio banged out a hit, Joe Selezan and Mat Siebert played well in the field, and Baggett pitched a solid final inning.

The Newtown Bee team included Kurt Nacewicz, Mike Poeltl, Max Muraskiewicz, Joe Selezan, Brian Carroll, Jeff Selezan, Judd Baggett, Gino Dilorio, Mat Siebert, Max Baudisch, Zach Gordon, Max Rochwarger, and Garrett Uhde.

J&J Pools included AJ Ritchie, James Maher, Ricky Gallucci, Jason Kostecki, John Aminti, Chris Voight, Matt Narel, Adam Horvath and Mike Hajzer.
