Elizabeth Hastedt

Devoted To Family

Elizabeth “Betty” Hastedt, age 82, beloved wife of the late Harold W. Hastedt of Monroe, died peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Wednesday, October 14, following a long illness. She was the mother of John Hastedt and mother-in-law to his wife, Reggie, of Sandy Hook.

Born in Malden, Mass., on July 3, 1927, Mrs Hastedt was the daughter of Mariam Najarian and Kevork Kayarian. Elizabeth was a longtime Monroe resident and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. She enjoyed cooking and making Armenian treats for her family at holidays and passing on the traditions of her heritage. She was an avid reader and was especially fond of reading biographies of strong and successful women of the past and present day.

Elizabeth was a member of Stepney Baptist Church and served as the treasurer for Stepney Baptist Women’s Group.

In addition to John Hastedt, she is survived by another son, Kenneth, and his wife, Julie Hastedt of Milford, Jayne Hastedt and her husband, Jamshed Ghandhi of San Carlos, Calif., and Karen Gilronan and her husband, Kevin, of Darien; plus nine grandchildren and three great-grandchidren. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, at 11 am, at Spadaccino-Gallagher Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike (Route 111) in Monroe, with Pastor Kevin Merritt officiating. Interment will directly follow in St John’s Cemetery, Monroe.

Friends may call on Saturday before the funeral service from 9 to 11 am.
