ART AND MYSTERY OF POTTING’ SUBJECT OF WINTERTHUR’S FORUM APRIL 27–28

WINTERTHUR, DEL. — Discover more about the ceramics you have always loved and enjoyed at Winterthur’s annual ceramics conference, “Earth and Fire: The Art and Mystery of the Potting Business,” on April 27–28.

During the two-day conference, scholars, master potters, scientists, museum professionals, and ceramics experts from the United States and the UK will educate participants in the production of ceramics through a series of lectures, demonstrations, and workshops as well as special-subject tours of the Winterthur collection.

“Some of the foremost experts in the field will share their knowledge of the mysteries of making and decorating ceramics,” said Jody Cross, assistant curator of education at Winterthur

Optional preconference workshops will be offered on Thursday, April 26. Topics will include the care and conservation of ceramics, how to interpret a ceramics collection, the Declaration of Independence porcelain, and slip decorated traditional and industrial ceramics. The optional sessions are offered twice on Thursday, for an additional fee of $50. Conference registration is required to participate in the workshops.
