The Back Room Sign Deal

To the Editor:

I was interested to read complaints in The Bee last week regarding political lawn signs. If in fact there was an informal, back room “gentlemen’s agreement” between the Democrats and Republicans, I believe that speaks volumes as to why the IPN had to be formed in the first place.

I have been through the Newtown statutes and nowhere was I able to find any ordinance prohibiting signs on taxpayers’ lawns expressing their respective choices for the candidates they wanted to see elected.

I did, however, find a document that spoke to these residents’ right to display their yard signs. It is called the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and is part of our Bill of Rights.
