Berkshire Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near its intersection with Pole Bridge Road about 9 am on April 2.

Motorist Carl Short, 40, of Patterson, N.Y., was driving a 1997 Subaru Outback station wagon westward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Kevin Fitzgerald, 49, of 21 Berkshire Road was driving a 1996 Mercury Tracer eastward there, police said.

The Mercury then made a left turn in front of the approaching Subaru, resulting in a collision in the westbound lane, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported Fitzgerald to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the incident. Police issued Fitzgerald an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Church Hill Impact

About 5:06 pm April 6, motorist Melissa Yitts, 19, of 8 Prospect Drive, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus sedan, was exiting the parking lot of the Blue Colony Diner in order to turn left onto westbound Church Hill Road, as motorist Deanna Tucker, 66, of Woodbury was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Yitts a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Four Vehicles

Police report a four-vehicle chain-reaction accident near 51 Berkshire Road about 12:50 pm April 6. All vehicles involved in the accident were traveling eastward on Berkshire Road.

Motorist William Talmadge, 61, of East Morris, who was driving a 1994 Mazda B-4000 pickup truck, stopped for a noncontact vehicle ahead of him, which was making a turn into the Misty Vale Deli parking lot, police said.

Motorist Ryan Diluoffo, 17, of 6 Owl Ridge Lane, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord, stopped behind the Mazda, police said.

Motorist Meaghan McCarthy, 18, of 31 Bennetts Bridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo SUV, then stopped behind the Honda, police said.

Although motorist Brendan Toomey, 17, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, attempted to stop, he could not, police said.

The Jeep hit the rear end of the Isuzu, pushing the Isuzu into the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Mazda, police said.

Ambulance volunteers went to the accident to check on pain complaints from McCarthy and Diluoffo, police said.

Police gave Toomey a written warning for failure to keep a reasonable distance apart.

Traffic Violations

Police report that they saw motorist Jeffrey Kass, 68, of Brookfield traveling southward near 201 South Main Street and swerving into the opposite lane of traffic, so they stopped him to investigate at about 9:30 am on April 7.

Police said they charged Kass with failure to drive to the right, driving with a suspended license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police released Kass from custody on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 21.

Dark Windows

At about 6 pm April 8, motorist Priscilla Barros, 19, of Danbury was stopped by police on Church Hill Road, just west of Interstate 84, because the vehicle that she was driving had darkly tinted window glass, police report.

After investigating, police charged Barros with having darkly tinted automotive windows without a required window tint permit and also with driving with a suspended license.

Barros was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 22.

Acura Crash

Motorist Vanessa Stier, 19, of Easton was driving a 2004 Acura MDX sport-utility vehicle southward near 160 Hattertown Road about 12:15 pm April 8, when the SUV went off the right road shoulder and then hit four guardposts and a utility pole, police report.

Police said Stier, who was not injured, them told that she had fallen asleep while driving. Stier received an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Botsford Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Swamp Road and Botsford Hill Road about 2:23 pm April 7.

Police said the accident involved motorist George Hamilton, 49, of Stamford, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Astrovan, and motorist Anthony Minotti, 60, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Maxima sedan.

There were no injuries. Hamilton received a written warning for unsafe backing, according to police.

Flat Swamp Crash

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Robert Ferraro, 48, of Fairfield turned himself in at the police station on the afternoon of April 8 and was charged with evading responsibility and with improper passing.

Police said that Ferraro was driving a midsize Ford SUV northward on Flat Swamp Road on the rainy night of February 19, when he attempted to pass a northbound full-size Ford SUV in a no-passing zone. In attempting to pass the larger vehicle, Ferraro collided with it and then left the scene of the accident, police said. There were no injuries, according to police.

Following an investigation, police obtained a court warrant for Ferraro’s arrest.

On April 8, police released him on $500 bail for an April 22 court appearance.

VW Off Road

About 8:22 pm April 7, motorist Edgar Almanzar-Ortiz, 22, of 100 Huntingtown Road was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward near 19 Huntingtown Road, when a deer entered the road, police said.

Almanzar-Ortiz swerved to avoid the animal, but went off the right side of the street and collided with some curbing, a rock, and a tree, police said.

Almanzar-Ortiz was not injured. Police gave him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Currituck Road

Police report they stopped motorist Sandra Baldino-Hannan, 39, of 12 Farm Field Ridge Road on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Frontage Road, about 9 pm April 11, because she was driving fast there.

After investigating, police charged Baldino-Hannan with traveling fast and with driving while under suspension. She was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 28, police said.

Main Street Collision

About 12:30 pm April 9, motorist Jonathan Urbina, 19, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1992 Acura Integra coupe northward on Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn near 45 Main Street, police report.

Northbound motorist Michael Aurelia, 17, of 157 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet K-2500 pickup truck, then struck the Acura from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Aurelia for following too closely.

Warrant

On April 10, after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Alex Kenyhercz, 22, of Bridgeport went to the police station where police charged him with failure to respond to a violation and with driving without automotive insurance.

Police said that Kenyhercz had not responded to a misdemeanor summons which they issued to him in connection with a motor vehicle accident last November 2 at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.

In that incident, Kenyhercz who was driving a 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck, backed into an unoccupied 1998 BMW convertible in the plaza’s parking lot, police said.

On April 10, police released Kenyhercz on $500 bail for an April 23 court appearance.

Interstate Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 7 am April 6.

Motorist Brianna Bradley, 21, of Ringwood, N.J., was driving a 2002 Hyundai Elantra in the left lane of two travel lanes, state police said.

Motorist Michael Hanrahan, 47, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic, was traveling directly behind the Hyundai, state police said.

The Honda then passed the Hyundai on the right and attempted to merge back into the left lane, but in doing so, the Honda collided with the Hyundai, state police added.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Mile Hill DUI

Police said that at about 11 pm on April 13, they stopped motorist Case Sherman, 21, of 43 Orchard Hill Road near the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Queen Street because the vehicle that he was driving did not have its rear marker plate illuminated.

After investigating, police said they charged Sherman with driving under the influence and with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate.

After processing, police released Sherman on $100 bail for an April 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Church Hill DUI

After receiving a complaint at about 9:24 pm on April 14, police went to the section of Church Hill Road just west of Interstate 84 where they found motorist Cheryl L. Millington-Hansen, 47, of Danbury parked in a 2000 Ford Taurus sedan at the Mobil gas station at 64 Church Hill Road, according to police.

After investigating, police said they charged Millington-Hansen with driving under the influence.

Following arrest processing, police released Millington-Hansen on $250 bail for an April 28 court appearance.

Fairfield Hills

About 2:43 am April 15, police went to Fairfield Hills following a complaint that a vehicle was driving on the campus near Newtown Youth Academy.

After investigating, police charged Stephen Bartek, 19, of Bethel with third-degree criminal trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle by an underage person.

After processing, police released Bartek on a written promise to appear April 29 in Danbury Superior Court.
