Marching Band And Color Guard Meeting Rescheduled For April 23
Students and parents interested in learning more about the Newtown Marching Nighthawks are invited to attend an open house Wednesday evening, April 23, at the Newtown Middle School cafeteria from 7 to 9. The NHS Winter Color Guard will perform selections from their recent competitions. Students from the band and color guard are bringing this event to the middle school in hopes of recruiting new students to fill the shoes of graduating seniors.
Under the direction of Kurt Eckhardt, Jason Hirou, and a dedicated team of staff, the award-winning NHS Marching Band and Color Guard compete against other high school marching bands in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey throughout the months of September and October. The NHS Marching Nighthawks also perform at home football games, the Newtown Labor Day Parade, and the New York City St Patrickâs Day Parade.
The open house is for any interested students who will be attending Newtown High School in the fall including students currently in eighth grade band, St Rose student musicians, and nonmusicians interested in the artistry and competition of marching band and color guard. NHS Marching Nighthawks students and staff will present information and answer questions for prospective members and their parents.
Mr Eckhardt, music teacher and band director, and the Newtown High School Band Parents Group are organizing this event. For more information contact Mr Eckhardt at Newtown High School, 426-7646, or band parents president, LouAnn Cardosa at 426-1835.
