Robert L. Bennett, Sr, 84, of Torrington Towers, died July 6 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the widower of Pauline (Monroe) Bennett. Mr Bennett was born January 19, 1922, in Danbury, son of William L. and Evelyn (Collins) Bennett.
Mr Bennett is survived by four sons, Mark Bennett of Newtown, Robert L. Bennett, Jr, of Stamford, Richard D. Bennett of Oxford, and Paul Bennett of Danbury; a daughter, Patti Lyn Honan of Sharon; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A brother, William, predeceased him.
He attended Gilbert & Bennett Grammar School, Danbury High School, and graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School. A World War II US Navy veteran, he served on the USS James E. Craig.
After his military service he lived in Georgetown for 57 years. He owned and operated Bennett Kitchens in Wilton for 40 years and when the Bennetts moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., in 1980, he continued his work in kitchen design.
A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. The Nutting-Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, has charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donorâs choice.
