A Special Night Recognized 75 Years

For The Town Players’ Little Theatre

By Eliza Hallabeck

To recognize those who have contributed to The Town Players’ Little Theatre on Orchard Hill Road over its 75 years in town, a party was held on Saturday, December 11.

Visitors filled the audience, a role reversal for some, and listened as Town Players’ Board of Directors Chair Pam Meister welcomed all to the theater.

“For this being our 75th anniversary, we once again received a commendation from the Connecticut General Assembly in honor of our anniversary,” said Ms Meister.

Other 75th anniversary year news, as Ms Meister said, included newly hung copies of original posters from past shows, and a new refrigerator.

“We held a very successful cabaret fundraising event in April,” said Ms Meister, “at Edmond Town Hall, with lots of Town Players talent, and that went very well.”

This year, The Town Players also offered a flex pass ticket, which Ms Meister said has been popular.

Also, during its 75th year, the theater company’s float won the honor for Best Non-Musical Entry in Newtown’s Labor Day Parade. A new website is also expected to be launched by the end of the year, according to Ms Meister. A Facebook page has also been set up for the group.

“Of course,” Ms Meister continued, “we are looking forward to an even brighter 2011. Support from the public is very important, of course, as well as support from all of you. Don’t forget we are a member driven organization, so renew your memberships, and if you are not a member, please be sure to sign up.”

After Ms Meister spoke, Vice Chair Christopher Bird handed out raffle prizes to audience members. Mary Jane Schaefer was the first to receive a prize, and ran down to the stage in “The Price Is Right” fashion after being urged by Ms Meister.

Food and beverages were served to all in attendance for the night.

The Little Theater is at 18 Orchard Hill Road, off Route 25, 2½ miles south of the flagpole. Parking is available in a small lot below the theater, and also around the corner. For information on membership, tickets and special programs, call the theater box office at 203-270-9144 or visit danbury.org/TownPlayers.
