Start Thinking Holiday Season:

Auditions At The Little Theater

Auditions will be held on Sunday, October 14, from 7 to 10 pm, for “Season of Miracles,” the holiday show to be staged by Town Players of Newtown the weekend of December 7-9. The full title of the production is “Season of Miracles: Festive Medieval Plays and Music.”

Vocal and instrumental music will be provided by The Everyman Guild, an early-music ensemble. Ruth Anne Baumgartner and Michael Stanley will direct; Tony Poile will assist as dance consultant.

The Town Players auditions will be for roles in the short plays The Creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham and Isaac, and The Second Shepherds’ Play, a nativity play with a comic subplot.

These plays, called “miracle plays,” were written and originally performed on wagons by members of the craft guilds of the middle ages as both entertainment and religious celebration. They present biblical stories with a mixture of wonder and humor that is, according to director Ruth Anne Baumgartner, “irresistibly lively and charming.” With the music, the unusual evening should be a kind of winter Revels celebrating Old and New Testament miracles as well as the miracles of song and laughter.

Needed are at least five males and an equal number of females of various ages. No children will be castwho do not also have a parent in the cast. Actors need not sing but should speak verse well in a presentational style. Auditions will be cold readings from the script.

Also needed are people to assist with costumes, backstage work, and publicity.

The auditions will be held at The Little Theatre, Orchard Hill Road (off Route 25) in Newtown. Call 270-9144 for more information and for directions to the theater.
