Help For Parents Of Substance Abusing Teens
Newtown Youth Services will begin a new support and education group for parents who are concerned about a teenager in their life who is abusing drugs and alcohol on Thursday, October 11.
Robert Wething, MA, LMFT, a family therapist in private practice in Monroe, will facilitate the group. He is also the substance abuse coordinator at Fairfield Community Services where he runs groups for individuals in the early stages of recovery. Mr Wething is also an adjunct professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Fairfield University.
The group is being offered to provide parents with peer support as well as information that will help them get through the challenges of helping their teen, and helping each other. There is no fee for this group, which will continue to meet twice a month. Parents are invited to register by calling 270-4335 or drop by Newtown Youth Services. The group meets in the Youth Services Parents Corner, 41A Main Street (the Congregational Church House behind the Newtown Savings Bank), on the top floor.
