Multiple Charges

Police report a violent incident at a home on Eden Hill Road near the Easton town line on the night of December 11.

Police said that Abner Soares, 25, of Danbury, while armed with a baseball bat, went to the home of his ex-girlfriend and then smashed in a window there, gained entrance to the house and then smashed apart a glass coffee table within.

There were four people inside the house when Soares broke in, but none of them were injured in the incident, police said. Soares then fled the scene, after which he was found and detained in Danbury by Danbury police, Newtown police said.

Newtown police transported Soares to the Newtown police station where they charged him with first-degree burglary, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree threatening, third-degree criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.

Police held Soares on $50,000 bail for arraignment on December 12 in Danbury Superior Court. Soares did not enter pleas in court to the five charges. In court, his bail was reduced to $25,000. Soares is scheduled to return to court on January 6.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a report about 7:38 pm on December 11, that a motorist was driving erratically eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Bradley Lane, so they went to the area to investigate the complaint.

Police report that at about 7:46 pm, they found the motorist in question and stopped him near 13 Walker Hill Road.

After investigating, police charged Sergei Prosvirin, 62, of Monroe with driving under the influence. Police released Prosvirin ion $500 bail for a January 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Great Quarter Crash

Police report that at about 10:10 pm on December 12, they responded to a one-vehicle accident on Great Quarter Road in which four youths under age 18 had been traveling in a 2009 Toyota Prius involved in the crash.

The Toyota is registered to a local woman, police said.

The Toyota was traveling westward on Great Quarter Road when it drove off the right road shoulder and then struck a utility pole. Great Quarter Road is a long dead-end street that extends from Berkshire Road, near the Monroe town line.

One of the four youths was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Two youths were medically checked at the scene of the crash, police said.

Police did not provide identities of the four people involved in the accident. The incident is under investigation.

Sandy Hook DUI

Police said that at about 8 pm on December 12, they stopped motorist Manuel Montalvo, 48, of Bridgeport for driving 46 miles per hour in an area with a 25 mph speed limit.

Police said they spotted the violation on Washington Avenue and then pulled over Montalvo near Newtown High School on Berkshire Road, after Montalvo initially had not stopped after being signaled to do so.

Police said they charged Montalvo with driving under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, and disobeying a police signal to stop.

Montalvo was released on $200 bail for a January 8 court appearance.

Queen Street DUI

At about 8:15 pm on December 13, motorist Dennie Dyess, 53, of 30 Waterview Drive did not stop at a stop sign on Tinkerfield Road at its intersection with Mile Hill Road, and then did not use his turn signal to indicate a left turn that he made from Mile Hill Road onto northbound Queen Street, police said.

Police said they stopped Dyess near 49 Queen Street to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, failure to obey a stop sign, and failure to use a turn signal.

Dyess was released on $200 bail for a January 8 court appearance.

Pearl Street

At about 3:10 pm on December 9, motorist George Walker, 61, of 16 Jeremiah Road was driving a 1992 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward near 28 Pearl Street, when the truck struck a curbside mailbox and then crossed over the road and hit a transformer box and a tree, police said.

Walker was not injured. Walker received an infraction for failure to drive to the right and for making a restricted turn, police said.

Church Hill Crash

About 7 am on December 4, a two-vehicle accident occurred near 62 Church Hill Road, police said.

Motorist Kenneth Chimileski, 62, of 22 Walnut Tree Hill Road, was driving a 2000 Ford Contour sedan westward and then stopped, waiting to make a left turn into a commercial driveway, police said.

An eastbound motorist, who was traveling in the straight-ahead lane, then stopped and waved for Chimileski to make that left turn, police said.

But at that time, motorist Hernandez Cardozo, 30, of 35 Mt Pleasant Road was driving a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder SUV in the eastbound right-turn-only lane, police said.

As the Ford attempted to turn left, the Ford and the Nissan collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Chimileski an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Evading Responsibility

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, in which one of the drivers left the scene of the crash at about 4:30 pm on December 9.

In that incident, a 39-year-old Danbury man was driving a 2014 Nissan Leaf southward on Mt Pleasant Road, when an unknown black SUV crossed over the road’s centerline and struck the Nissan’s left exterior rear-view mirror, police said. The SUV driver then drove away from the scene. The Nissan driver was not injured.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the SUV driver’s identity to contact Officer Scott Ruszczyk at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Highway Crash

At about 7:50 am on December 12, motorist Veronica Thompson, 49, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Avalon sedan westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, slowed for heavy traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Nicole Lucas, 30, of Prospect, who was driving a 2009 Lexus IS-250, state police said.

There were no injuries. Lucas received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Three Vehicles

Three vehicles were involved in an accident at the traffic signal at the end of Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp at about 5:40 pm on December 12, state police said.

In that incident, motorist Lynn Simoneau, 39, of 7 Crabapple Lane, who was driving a 1998 Ford E-150 truck, stuck the rear end of a stopped 2007 Honda Civic driven by Aaron Zukowski, 23, of Shelton, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a stopped GMC Acadia SUV driven by Olga Coleman-Williams, 40, of 50 Pole bridge Road, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Icy Road

Motorist Taylor Watson, 23, of Norwalk was driving a 2009 Pontiac G-6 sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, about 12:30 am on December 9, when she lost control of the auto on icy pavement, went off the left road shoulder and then struck an embankment, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Watson to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Glen Road

At about 8:20 am on December 12, motorist Luis Paguay, 42, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Mazda Protégé sedan southward on Glen Road, was waiting at a traffic signal near 3 Glen Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Carol Collins, 42, of 2 Shady Rest Boulevard, who was driving a 2012 Honda Civic sedan, was waiting behind the Mazda, police said.

The Honda then rolled forward, striking the rear end of the Mazda, police said.

Paguay was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said.

Collins received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said. Paguay received an infraction for driving without a license, police report.

 Restaurant Burglary

Police report that they learned on December 10 that a forced-entry burglary had occurred at Tambascio’s Italian Grill, a restaurant at 1 Dodgingtown Road. The burglar stole money from the business’s cash register, police said. The case is under investigation.

Store Burglary

Police said that on the morning of December 13, they learned that a forced-entry burglary had occurred at Peachwave Yogurt, a frozen yogurt shop at 48 South Main Street. The burglar stole money from the cash register, police said. Police are investigating the crime.

Bicycle Found

Police report they learned at about 11:15 am on December 9 that a woman’s bicycle had been found abandoned at the Newtown Middle School grounds at 11 Queen Street. Police are holding the bicycle for safekeeping. The owner may claim it at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Berkshire Road

Police report that at about 3:30 pm on December 13, motorist Janet Lantowsky, 72, of Shelton was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan minivan westward on Berkshire Road, just west of its intersection with High Rock Road, when the vehicle went out of control and then struck two wooden posts alongside the road, coming to rest atop a concrete drainage structure.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Lantowsky to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Riverside Road

Motorist Mark Hazel, 53, of 40 Engleside Terrace was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt eastward on Riverside Road about 2:30 pm on December 10,  when the auto struck a pothole, damaging a tire, police said. Hazel was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Church Hill Road, Glen Road, Riverside Road, and Washington Avenue about 3 pm on December 9.

The collision involved motorist Kristen Pack, 66, of 16 Elana Lane, who was driving a 2007 Volvo XC-70, and motorist Sara Edgerton, 26, of 6 Shepaug Road, who was driving a 1996 Subaru Legacy, police said.

There were no injuries. Pack received an infraction for passing on the right, police said.

South Main Crash

Police report that motorist Nicole Castellucci, 28, of Stratford was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler SUV southward on South Main Street, near the northern driveway for Sand Hill Plaza, about 9:20 am on December 13, as motorist Lois Winspur, 89, of 39 Orchard Hill Road, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Camry sedan, was exiting that driveway.

The Jeep did not stop at a red traffic signal and struck the Toyota, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Castellucci an infraction for a traffic signal violation.

At about 3:25 pm on December 12, a three-vehicle accident occurred near 43 South Main Street. The accident involved a 2013 Honda Civic sedan driven by Christine Madden, 52, of 58 Butterfield Road, a 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible driven by Carlos Lopez, no age given, of Danbury, and a 1997 Ford pickup truck driven by William Rodriguez, 40, of Naugatuck, police said. Lopez was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment of injuries, police said. Rodriguez received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.                  
Motorist Maria Rocha, 67, of Huntington was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV northward on South Main Street, just south of its intersection with Mile Hill Road, at about 2:35 pm on December 12, when she briefly closed her eyes and drove off the right road shoulder, police said. The vehicle  then returned to the northbound lane, where it flipped onto its left side, police said. There were no injuries. Rocha received a infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.                
Police report that motorist Carol Goldstein, 65, of West Hartford was driving a 2005 Subaru Forester SUV southward near 83 Toddy Hill Road about 10 am on December 12, when she slowed in preparing to turn left, after which the Forester was struck from behind by southbound motorist Tiffany O’Rourke, 20, of Roxbury, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Impreza sedan. The impact pushed the Forester off the roadway where it struck some rocks and fencing and then traveled several hundred feet before coming to rest on some rocks, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Goldstein to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. O’Rourke received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
