The Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) West Region, Newtown Public Schools, and the Connecticut Family Support Network (CTFSN) are partnering together to sponsor a Spring Resource Fair on Tuesday, April 29.

The event will be held at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road, from 4:30 until 6:30 pm. Individuals and families will have an opportunity to meet and gather information about disability-related supports and services from community vendors and state agencies.

After the resource fair, a presentation titled “Meeting Halfway for Parents,” presented by the CTFSN, will start at 6:45 pm.

This training is for parents and caregivers focusing on the importance of positive communications with professionals who support youth with disabilities and how to develop communication strategies.

DDS offers events like this throughout the state annually and also participates in similar events sponsored by area school districts and other private entities. The department has found these forums to be an effective tool to share vital information and resources with the individuals and families they support.

Vendors interested in participating in this event are encouraged to contact DDS’s Joan Fortin at 203-805-7420 to reserve space.

Anyone with questions regarding this event or who are interested in having DDS participate in a future event can contact Lorraine Gendron, DDS program manager, at 203-806-8726 or Brian Smith, DDS program manager, at 203-806-8823.
