NEW YORK CITY — Dealers are looking forward to Americana Week — Antiques at the Armory, Antiques at the Piers, the New York Winter Antiques Show, TAAS, the New York Ceramics Fair.

Halsey Munson will come to Antiques at the Armory with a pair of rare Nineteenth Century grained console tables with superb turnings, a mid-Nineteenth Century wooden leaping horse silhouette weathervane showing off the original green paint and stunningly weathered surface, and a beautifully figured pair of Massachusetts maple side chairs with parrot’s beak back splats.

Thurston Nichols, coming from Pennsylvania, is bringing several interesting finds: a striking red and black painted cupboard with the date 1882 painted on it; a classic horse and buggy with driver weathervane sporting a beautiful patina; a Windsor chair with turned legs and stretcher, showing wear in all the right places; and two elegant long case clocks. From Thomas Jefferson country, comes Kenny Ball of Charlottesville, Va., bringing exquisite French and Continental furniture and decorations.

Alan and Kathy Stacy Fine Boxes of the United Kingdom can always be counted on as a terrific source for the finest and most interesting accent pieces for any bookshelf or mantel place or Pembroke table. Why buy a new entry way light when you can have an antique lantern from Frank Swim who will be lighting the way from Hudson, N.Y.?

Shiny silver will make any room more elegant and Drucker Antiques, specialists in Georg Jensen silver from Mount Kisco, are bringing their finest. George and Debbie Spiecker Fine Antiques, New Hampshire, have found a truly important piece of Americana, a carved and painted emperor penguin by Charles Hart of Cape Ann, Mass., circa 1930, on the original square wooden base showing off the original weathered surface. Hart used to sell his penguins on the side of the road between Essex and Gloucester, Mass.

Balsamo Antiques can be counted on to bring elegant, unusual and attractive furniture and decorations. Owner Stephen Abeles, himself a designer, creates contemporary and comfortable homes by mixing and matching furniture and decorations from many centuries and countries. His take on what exact architectural element will look best on a wall is unforgettable. His eye for country furniture, pottery and folk art is not only a decorator’s eye but one of a scholar and collector as well. Another Pennsylvania gallery, Greg K. Kramer & Co., which specializes in Nineteenth Century Americana, will have a Loof leaping giraffe carousel figure, a beautifully carved Windsor folk art child’s rocker with two sculptured horses flanking the seat and a classic American theorem on paper.

Customers can see and buy at an e-preview online beginning at 7 pm Thursday, January 20, at StellaShows.com. Antiques at the Armory will be held at the historic 69th Regiment Armory, Lexington Avenue at 26th Street on January 21–23.
