GIRLS 5TH

 

NEWTOWN 35, SACRED HEART 25: Ally Modzelewski scored eight points while Nicole Elias and Sara Kelley chipped in with six apiece to lead a balanced offensive effort. Kate Bowen, Lindsey Lively and Stephanie Suhoza combined for 13 points. Carolyn Fagan, Kristen Tanner and Ellen Ritzinger had fine floor games.

SOUTHBURY 22, NEWTOWN 21: Newtown fought back from an 11-2 deficit, but lost a heartbreaker. Sara Kelley scored 11 points while Kate Bowen added six. Ally Modzelewski and Carolyn Fagan chipped in with two points apiece.

BOYS 5TH

 

NEWTOWN 41, FAIRFIELD 39: Dan Lynch canned 13 points as Newtown nipped Fairfield. Andy Lapple added eight points while George Zaruba contributed seven. Kyle Kromberg and Peter Young combined for nine points as Ben Collins, Chris Caulfield and Nick Tarantino had fine floor games.

BOYS 6TH

 

DARIEN 41, NEWTOWN 39 (OT): Newtown lost an eight-point halftime lead and succumbed in overtime. Connor Collier hit the front end of a one-and-one with 0.3 seconds to send the game in overtime. Newtown fell behind by six in OT, but had a chance to win it in the closing seconds when a 3-point shot bounced off the rim. Connor Collier and Ricky Gallucci combined for 20 points to lead Newtown’s scoring. Dan Quinn and Cole Depuy both chipped in six points as Andrew Meisel, John Grimaldi, and Kurt Nacewicz played well.

DANBURY 52, NEWTOWN 44: Newtown had a very balanced offensive attack with 9 of 10 players scoring. Newtown’s scoring was led by the combination of Connor Collier and Ian Cooper with 19 points. Cole Depuy, Kurt Nacewicz, Dan Quinn, and Ricky Gallucci each had 4 points. Keith McGrath and Chris Marks each had 2 points.

NEWTOWN 52, FAIRFIELD 29: Newtown turned a four-point halftime lead into a 24-point third quarter lead and then coasted home for its 17th win of the season. All 10 players scored on the day. Dan Quinn, Keith McGrath, Kurt Nacewicz, and Connor Collier combined for 32 points to lead all scorers. Andrew Meisel, Cole Depuy, and John Grimaldi each had five points. Ricky Gallucci, Ian Cooper, and Chris Marks played well.

GIRLS 7TH

 

NEWTOWN 42, EASTON 15: Katie Schmidt had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Newtown to an easy win over Easton. Harriet Morgan added six points and five steals while Katie Condon had seven steals. Morgan Knees and Caitlin O’Handley combined for 14 points and 14 rebounds.

NEWTOWN 54, BEACON FALLS 13: Newtown boosted its record to 12-6 with the win. Katie Schmidt had 14 points and 13 rebounds for another double-double while Kelly Tenney chipped in with eight points and five steals. Stacy Broughton added six points, seven rebounds and three assists. Defensively, Hannah Tenenbaum, Bridie Rubino and Katie Kirrane had strong games.

BOYS 8TH

 

NEW CANAAN 57, NEWTOWN 42: The Redhawks rallied back from a halftime deficit on the strength of defense from Tucker Kass, Joe Rahtelli and Mike Tibbetts, but they could not overcome New Canaan. Tibbetts had 12 points while Max Reid and Ryan McGrath had eight each.

GIRLS 8TH

 

NEWTOWN 53, WEST HAVEN 46: Darcy Fiscella scored 13 points and Amy Kelley added 12 as Newtown defeated West Haven in the first round of the Keegan Memorial Tournament in Monroe. Jill Logan had seven points and 13 rebounds while Jen Mariani canned a pair of three-pointers for six points. Christie Iwanicki and Sam Wong made four steals each.
