Hoping For Something Better

Dear Editor:

I am shocked that the issue of a former Newtown High School guidance intern charged with sex crimes was reported so unfairly in the front page of your paper including the young woman’s name and address.

I am familiar with both sides in this alleged incident, and there are many lies, rumors and innuendos that have not been substantiated. Both sides will have their day in court and both sides will be investigated and questioned.

It is highly unfair to print this story, including putative mandatory punishment for a crime that has not been proven, before the young woman is questioned by a judge and he decides whether the case against her has any merit. Trials and hearings should take place in court and not on the pages of a hometown newspaper.

The Newtown Bee has a legacy of fairness. This article smacks of the lowest form of tabloid reporting.

You owe the citizens of Newtown something better.

Yours truly,

Ruth King
