In Week #11 of Newtown Health & Fitness Club’s Women’s Basketball League, Newtown Amoco’s win over Pizza Palace and Charter Communications’ defeat of Kerler/Burton brought Pizza Palace and Charter into a tie for second place while Walsh Logging widened the distance between first and second place to five games.

NEWTOWN AMOCO 49, PIZZA PALACE 42: Denise Brough’s nine points in the third quarter and 13 total rebounds propelled Amoco to the win over Pizza Palace 49-42. Justine Kohlsaat added 18 and Terry Schmiedel 12. Karen Powell led Pizza Palace with 18 points and nine rebounds. Beth Gattey scored 14 and Jackie Peterson added 10.

WALSH LOGGING 50, NEWTOWN COLOR CENTER 22: Tracey Palella and Ruth Rowe controlled the play for Walsh Logging scoring 19 and 18 points respectively to lead their team to a 50-22 win over Newtown Color Center. Palella tossed in a half-court three pointer at the third quarter buzzer. Carol Huizinga added eight and Megan LaCava sank five for Walsh. Sharon McCarthy led Newtown Color Center with 10 points. Melanie Townsend added seven, Joan Plavnicky tossed in three points and grabbed six rebounds, and Lisa Pollard tossed in two points.

CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS 39, KERLER/BURTON 25: Kerler/Burton came on strong in the first quarter, outscoring Charter Communications by six points, but was unable to keep up the momentum as Charter captured the win 39-25. Nancy Bowen scored 10 points for Kerler/Burton with Michelle Putnickey scoring nine points and pulling down seven rebounds. Bonnie Willie scored four points and Debi Modzekewski two. Laura Denis led Charter to the win with 12 aided by Collene Gregory with 10, Holly Ferguson with seven, Stephanie Trolle with six and Laura Willing with four.
