A. Edward Arruda

A. Edward Arruda, 95, of Bethel, died April 15 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Santos Arruda.

Mr Arruda was born in Taunton, Mass., June 15, 1908, a son of the late Manuel and Eliza Tiexeria Arruda. He was a resident of Bethel since 1945. He worked at the former George A. Shepard & Sons Tannery for many years and then worked at CBS until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of St Mary’s Church in Bethel, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member and former treasurer of the Grassy Plain Drum Corps.

Mr Arruda is survived by four daughters, Patricia M. Andrews and her husband Chester of Newtown, Ruth A. Grenier and her husband William of Portsmouth, Va., Linda M. Arruda-Mastroianni and her husband Michael of Bethel; Rita A. Carollo and her husband John of Leesburg, Fla.; two sons, Robert J. Arruda of Arlington, Va., and John C. Arruda and his wife Lorraine of Port Angeles, Wash.; 14 grandchildren, John, Joseph, Jamie, Frances, Chip, Ed, Gary, Gene, Paul, Peter, Melissa, David, Emily, and Amy; as well as 18 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son, James Edward Arruda; a sister, Rita Maurice; brothers, Anthony, Gilbert, and Edmond Arruda and John Santos.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Mary’s Church, Bethel, April 19. Burial was in St Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel.
