Chevy Hits Ford

About 4:24 pm on May 5 on eastbound Interstate 84, about 100 feet east of Exit 9, motorist Nicole DePalma, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Ford Focus, slowed in heavy traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist James Adinolfi, 29, of Rumford, Maine, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox SUV, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Adinolfi for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Eyeglasses Found

Police report that a pair of prescription eyeglasses was found lying on the ground near Keating Farms Avenue at Fairfield Hills on the afternoon on May 4. The eyeglasses have black plastic frames that hold circular lenses. The owner may claim the item, which is known as Case 2019-11345, by contacting police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 293-426-5841.

Honda CR-V

Motorist Fernanda Miranda, 62, of Naugatuck was driving a Honda CR-V SUV westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, about 12:50 pm on May 3, when the vehicle struck a tire tread that was lying on the roadway, state police said. There were no injuries. No enforcement was taken.

Chain Reaction

State police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident about 3:35 pm on May 3, on eastbound Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet west of Exit 10.

Amid heavy traffic, motorist Marybeth Dalton, 53, of Marshfield, Mass., who was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban SUV, slowed for traffic, as did motorist Holly McGowan, 60, of Watertown, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Quest SUV, state police said. Motorist Melissa Ascoy, 26, of Easton, Penn., who was driving a 2008 Honda Pilot SUV, then struck the rear end of the Nissan, pushing the Nissan into the rear end of the Chevrolet.

There were no injuries. Ascoy was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Highway Crash

State police said that at about 5:27 pm on May 3, on eastbound Interstate 84, about 200 feet east of Exit 11, amid heavy traffic conditions, motorist Tina Elias, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 2016 GMC Terrain SUV, slowed and was then struck from behind by a 2010 Honda Accord driven by Margaret Smith, 66, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

There were no injuries. Smith received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart

Assault

About 6:03 am on May 2, police responded to Curtis Packaging at 44 Berkshire Road after receiving a report that an assault had occurred there.

Police said their investigation indicated that temporary employee William Conroy-Delarosa, 20, of Derby, had assaulted another male temporary employee in a parking lot. The unidentified victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Conroy-Delarosa had left the scene after the incident, but was later located at his home by Derby police. Newtown police charged him with second-degree assault, which is a felony. He was held on $5,000 bail for a court arraignment that day.

Conroy-Delarosa pleaded not guilty in court and was released on a written promise to appear on May 30 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Three Charges

In congested traffic conditions, on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, at about 9:05 am on April 30, motorist Bobby Durham, Jr, 28, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2013 BMW 528-I sedan, struck the rear end of a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Vincent Monti, 57, of Tobyhanna, Penn., state police said.

There were no injuries. State police handed Durham a misdemeanor summons for driving under suspension, failure to have automotive insurance, and following too closely.

Van Vs SUV

In congested traffic conditions on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 7:50 am on April 29, motorist Lee Stevens, 65, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Subaru Forester SUV, was struck from behind by a 2012 Ford Econoline van driven by Angel Leon, 29, of Meriden, state police said.

Stevens reported pain, but declined medical attention. Leon received an infraction for following too closely and for driving without a license.

Heavy Traffic

State police said that at about 4:39 pm on April 29, motorist Illeana Cotto, 38, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1994 Acura Integra in heavy traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, stopped and was then struck from behind by Colinmarc Vassell, 24, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.

Cotto received possible injuries. State police verbally warned Vassell for following too closely.

Sixteen Accidents

Under revised criteria, Newtown police are no longer providing detailed information on what are considered to be minor motor vehicle accidents.

Between May 2 and May 8, 16 motor vehicle accidents occurred on local roads, not including Interstate 84. Those collisions occurred at a variety of locations:

An accident near 172 Mt Pleasant Road at 2:52 pm on May 2; a collision on Church Hill Road at 3:22 pm on May 3; a crash near 39 Main Street at 4:13 pm on May 3; an accident near the intersection of Blackman Road and Middleton Road about 4:35 pm on May 3; a collision near 27 Glen Road about 1:14 am on May 6; and a crash near 151 South Main Street about 7:59 am on May 7.

Other incidents included an accident near 63 South Main Street about 8:35 am on May 7; a collision near 63 South Main Street about 8:42 am on May 7; a crash near 279 South Main Street about 3:04 pm on May 7; an accident at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 4:56 pm on May 7; and a collision near 2 Button Shop Road about 9:20 pm on May 7.

Also occurring, a crash at the intersection of Sugar Street and Sugar Lane about 7:23 am on May 8; an accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Jordan Hill Road about 10:58 am on May 8; a collision near 34 Church Hill Road about 12:35 pm on May 8; a crash on Church Hill Road about 12:47 pm on May 8; and an accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Bradley Lane about 5:55 pm on May 8.
