Appearance Charge

At about 1:41 pm on May 14, police arrested Laura Thompson, 57, of Newtown, on a warrant, charging her with second-degree failure to appear in court. After processing, police released Thompson on $500 bail for a May 29 court appearance.

Warrant

At 3:50 pm on May 14, police arrested Crystal Ann Burby, 38, of Hratford, on a warrant, charging her with second-degree failure to appear in court. After posting $1,000 bail, Burby was released for a May 30 court appearance.

Evading

Police received a call at 2:21 pm on May 13, informing them of a motor vehicle accident near 13 Church Hill Road. Police investigated and at 3:10 pm arrested motorist Jermane Jamuike Anyoha, 19, of Newtown, on a charge of evading responsibility. Anyoha was released for a May 29 court appearance. Information on the accident which resulted in the criminal charge was not available. All charges against Anyoha were dismissed at a follow-up court appearance on August 14, 2019.

Blown Tire

About 5:43 am on May 11, motorist Narinedatt Rampersaud, 56, of Waterbury, was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet west of Exit 10, when a tire blew out on the auto and the vehicle went out of control, striking some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police took no enforcement.

Heavy Traffic

During a period of heavy traffic on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, at about 4:11 pm on May 11, motorist Nicholas Guerrera, 37, of Southbury, who was driving a 2014 Kia Optima sedan, stopped and was then struck from behind by motorist Judith Thompson, 68, of New Fairfield, who as driving a 2010 Subaru Forester, state police said.

There were no injuries. Thompson received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Lexus Vs Jeep

State police report that at about 9:46 am on May 9, motorist David Baril, 65, of Woodbridge, who was driving a 2009 Lexus ES-350 sedan, stopped directly behind a stopped 2016 Jeep Compass SUV driven by motorist Pamela Schork, 19, Woodbury, at the end of the Exit 9 off-ramp for westbound Interstate 84.

The Lexus then moved forward and struck the rear end of the Jeep. There were no injuries.

State police issued Baril a written warning for unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle.

Ramp Collision

At about 5:04 pm on May 6, Jerusha Wright, 19, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan, struck the rear end of a 2013 Nissan Altima auto driven by Whitney Chisholm, 22, of Watertown, at the end of the Exit 9 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, state police said.

There were no injuries. Wright received a verbal warning for unsafe movement of stopped vehicle.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that at about 9 pm on May 5, an unknown motorist was driving a Nissan Altima auto eastward on Berkshire Road, about 200 feet east of its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, as a woman was driving a 2011 BMW 3288-XI westward on Berkshire Road.

While on a curve in the road, the Nissan crossed over the road’s center line and struck the BMW, police said. The Nissan then drove away from the collision without stopping. The BMW driver was not injured.

The Nissan likely is blue and is a model year 2014 or newer vehicle. Police are investigating.

No Details

Between May 9 and May 15, more than a dozen motor vehicle accidents occurred locally. Police, however, no longer are providing details on accidents they categorize as minor.

Following is a list of incidents for which no details were available: an accident at 9:25 am on May 9 near 23 Barnabas Road in Hawleyville; a collision at 10:25 am on May 9 near the intersection of Hunting Ridge Road and Flat Swamp Road in Dodgingtown; and a crash at 12:22 pm on May 9 near 116 South Main Street.

Also, an accident at 6:39 pm on May 10 near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Fir Tree Lane in Sandy Hook; a collision at 10:13 pm on May 5 near the intersection of Hattertown Road and Eden Hill Road; and a crash at 6:19 am on May 11 near 307 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

Other incidents include: an accident at 8:49 am on May 11 near the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive in the Borough; a collision at 1:01 pm on May 11 near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Great Quarter Road in Sandy Hook; and a crash at 1:29 pm on May 12 near 263 South Main Street in Botsford.

Other incidents include: an accident at 6:48 am on May 13 near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road in Sandy Hook; a collision at 8:50 am on May 15 near the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road; and a crash at 1:12 pm on May 15 near 50 Elm Drive.
