CAES Plans Aug 2 Plant Science Day
HAMDEN â The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) will hold Plant Science Day on August 2 at the Lockwood Farm in Hamden.
The day will begin at 10:15 am with a talk by Thomas M. Rathier on gardening in containers. At 10:45 am Theodore G. Andreadis will speak about West Nile Virus in Connecticut.
The Century Farm Award will be presented at 11:30 am. Claire C. Bennitt, chairperson of the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, will present the Samuel W. Johnson Memorial Lecture.
After lunch, Chris T. Maier will speak about the threat of exotic beetles. Sharon M. Douglas will discuss basic techniques for propagating plants at 1:45 pm. At 2:15 pm, Richard K. Kiyomoto will discuss growing wine grapes in Connecticut. Gregory Bugbee and Jason C. White will present a program on controlling invasive lake weeds at 2:45 pm. From 10 am to 4 pm there will be barn displays, 60 field plots and exhibits, plant diagnosis, insect identification, and questions answered.
