Gilbert Fong

Gilbert Fong, 64, of Carol Ann Drive, died at his home April 1 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Wendy (Leopold) Fong.

Mr Fong was born in Melrose, Mass., on January 15, 1940, a son of the late Young and Shee (Wong) Fong. He was a graduate of Northeastern University, Class of 1963, with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. For the past 25 years he has been employed as a senior analyst for SBC, formerly SNET.

He was a lover of fine music and was treasurer of the Connecticut Master Chorale. A resident of Newtown since 1978, he was an avid tennis player and a member of the Newtown Tennis Association, where he was a past publicity chairman. He had also been voted “Man of the Year” by the association.

In addition to his wife, Mr Fong is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Weiler and her husband Geoffrey of Mesa, Ariz.; one nephew, Steven Weiler of Groveland, Mass.; and two nieces, Linda Dutil of Mesa, Ariz., and Julee Weiler of Groveland, Mass.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at a place and time to be announced. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to Connecticut Master Chorale, PO Box 3302, Danbury CT 06813-3302, or to Visiting Nurse Services of Oxford, 84 Oxford Road, Oxford CT 06478. Arrangements by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
