Warrants/Drugs

Police report that at about 6:36 pm on May 29, they spotted Michael Paradise, 33, of Redding, exit the passenger side of a vehicle at the Main Street flagpole intersection and then walk across Main Street to West Street.

Police said they held three warrants for his arrest and then charged Paradise with three counts of second-degree failure to appear in court. Additionally, police said that found that Paradise possessed 15 bags of heroin and consequently charged him with possession of narcotics. Paradise was held on $23,000 bail overnight in the police station lockup for a court arraignment on May 30, police said.

Watch Found

Police said that earlier this month, a black Fit Bit-brand watch was found near the Newtown Meeting House at 31 Main Street. Police are holding the watch for safekeeping. The owner may claim the watch by contacting Officer Felicia Figol at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Automotive Key

Police reported last week they have in their possession for safekeeping a Jeep-brand automotive key that was found on Yogananda Street in Sandy Hook. The key is attached to a leather key chain. The owner may claim the key by contacting Officer Felicia Figol at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Sedan Hits Pickup

About 10:46 am on May 27, amid congested conditions on eastbound Interstate 84, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Kathleen Blersch, 65, of Southbury, slowed and was then struck from behind by motorist Mario Spadafora, 45, of Yonkers, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Spadafora received an infraction for following too closely.

Mercedes Key

Police report that on May 26, a person turned over to them for safekeeping an electronic key fob for a Mercedes-Benz vehicle; the key was found at Fairfield Hills. The key’s owner may contact Officer Benjamin Mulhall at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, regarding Case #19-13485 to claim the device.

Two Warrants

Police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle that was parked on Brandywine Lane about 6:28 am on May 27, so they went there to investigate.

Police located the gray sedan in question and learned that it contained Kristen Whelan, 28, of Newtown. A records checks indicated that there were two pending warrants for Whelan in connection with incidents that occurred in Ansonia and Southington. Police charged Whelan with first-degree failure to appear in court and with second-degree failure to appear in court. Whelan was scheduled to make appearances in two courts on the charges.

Ford Vs Fence

At about 10:04 am on May 26, motorist Peter Sayers, 45, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1988 Ford Mustang, was attempting to turn around in order to back into a driveway on Cherry Street, but due to a mechanical problem, the vehicle went out of control and traveled across the road, striking and damaging a fence and lawn, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sayers for the unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Toddy Hill Crash

Motorist Anthony Giordano, 27, of Trumbull, was driving a 2009 Hyundai Elantra southward on Toddy Hill Road about 4:47 pm on May 26, when he drove off the right road shoulder and struck a curbside residential mailbox at 64 Toddy Hill Road, after which he drove across the street and then went off the left road shoulder, after which the auto rolled over onto its roof, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Giordano to St Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport. The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company responded to the accident. Police are investigating.

DUI Warrant

Police report that on May 25, they went to the Newtown residence of Philip Hickey, 24, and served him with an arrest warrant in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred in February.

Police said that Hickey was driving a vehicle that entered unspecified private property and caused damage there, after which Hickey drove away from the scene. Police arrested Hickey on charges of driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to drive to the right, driving with a suspended license, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Following arrest processing, police released Hickey on a written promise to appear for arraignment on the charges of June 18 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision occurred about 6:38 am on May 25 on southbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Country Club Road.

In that incident, motorist Joseph Ferro, 30, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta auto, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Heather Leary, 20, of Guilford, who was driving a 2003 GMC pickup truck, stopped behind the Volkswagen, police said.

Motorist Brittney Stout, 30, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape SUV, then struck the rear end of the GMC, pushing the GMC into the rear end of the Volkswagen. There were no injuries. Police issued Stout an infraction for following too closely.

Three Involved

Three vehicles were involved in an accident on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 2:01 pm on May 25.

In heavy traffic conditions, motorist Thomas Como, 82, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Honda CR-V SUV, struck the rear end of a 2006 Lincoln LS sedan driven by Ryan Kowalczyk, 36, of Middletown, pushing the Lincoln into the rear end of a 2007 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Derek Wheeler, 25, of Asheboro, N.C., state police said.

Kowalczyk had suspected minor injuries, and Como had possible injuries. Como received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 12:02 am on May 24 they saw a motorist fail to stay within his travel lane multiple times while driving on South Main Street, so they stopped Konstantinos Kolitsas, 53, of Waterbury, to investigate near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane.

After investigating, police charged Kolitsas with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After arrest processing, police released Kolitsas on $100 bail for a June 7 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Four Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Ali Alsagoor, 24, of West Haven, near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Berkshire Road to investigate, about 7:04 pm on May 24.

Police charged Alsagoor with failure to display a marker plate, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving under suspension. Police additionally charged Alsagoor on a warrant with second-degree failure to appear in court. Alsagoor was released on $600 bail overall for two upcoming court appearances.

Picnic Tables

Police report they learned that sometime overnight on May 23-24, someone vandalized a number of metal picnic tables at Dickinson Park at 50 Elm Drive. The incident caused several thousand dollars worth of damage. The vandalism is under investigation.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred near 15 Berkshire Road about 7:42 am on May 23.

Motorist Donna Lorenz, 61, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Saturn Vue SUV southward, slowed, as did southbound motorist Sara Brant, 22, of Southbury, who was driving a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek SUV, police said. Southbound motorist Sarah Payne, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 BMW 535-XI sedan, then struck the rear end of the Subaru, after which the Subaru struck the rear end of the Saturn.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Payne for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Pecks Lane

A two-vehicle accident occurred at Pecks Lane’s southern intersection with South Main Street about 2:24 pm on May 23.

Police said motorist Philip Pierce, 60, of Newtown, who was driving a 2019 Toyota 4-Runner SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped to make a left turn onto Pecks Lane, after which a southbound 2012 Infiniti G-37 auto driven by Henry Lopez-Cepero, 78, of Sandy Hook, struck the Toyota from behind.

There were no injuries. Lopez-Cepero received a verbal warning for following too closely.

Wasserman/ Nunnawauk

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Nunnawauk Road about 7:48 am on May 23.

In that incident, motorist Kimberly Bepko, 48, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Lexus GS-350 sedan northward on Nunnawauk Road, stopped at the intersection, after which a 2019 Altima sedan driven by Olivia Cavallero, 16, of Newtown, rolled forward and struck the rear end of the Lexus, police said. There were no injuries. Cavallero received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Key Rock Road

At about 5:41 pm on May 23, motorist Molly Calderara, 32, of Newtown was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse SUV northward on Key Rock Road behind northbound motorist Diane Iorfino, 54, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, police said.

The Hyundai stopped for a stop sign at Key Rock Road’s intersection with Sugar Street, after which the Chevrolet struck the rear end of the Hyundai. There were no injuries. Police report they issued Calderara an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle, and also verbally warned Calderara for following too closely.

Off-Ramp Crash

State police report that at about 6:13 am on May 22 on Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp, motorist Jerry Daniels, 54, of Yonkers, N.Y., who was driving a 2018 Kia Optima sedan, struck the rear end of a 2005 Honda Accord driven by Carlton Watson, 62, of Derby. Watson received a possible injury. Daniels was following too closely, state police said.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the traffic signal at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 9:47 am on May 22.

Motorist Andre Jaeger, 78, of Newtown, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, had stopped for a red traffic signal on southbound South Main Street, after which a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV driven by Heather Kranyik Hull, 44, of Newtown, stopped behind the pickup truck, police said.

Police said Jaeger then saw a tractor-trailer truck attempting to make a left turn from northbound South Main Street onto westbound Meadowbrook Road, so he backed up to provide room for the tractor-trailer to make that turn, but inadvertently backed into the front end of the SUV. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Jaeger for unsafe backing.

Chain Reaction

Police report that a three-vehicle accident occurred near 116 South Main Street about 5:34 pm on May 22.

In that incident, motorist Joanna Nappi, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V SUV northward, stopped for traffic conditions, after which northbound motorist Pamela Fehrs, 49, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman, stopped behind the Honda, police said.

Northbound motorist Alexa Sullivan, 22, of New Milford, who was driving a 2004 Infiniti G-35 sedan, then struck the rear end of the Mini, pushing the Mini into the rear end of the Honda. There were no injuries. Sullivan received an infraction for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Impact

At about 7:39 am on May 21 on northbound Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, motorist Erik Cobuzzi, 27, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by a 2008 BMW 528-XI sedan driven by Grace Bianco, 16, of Sandy Hook, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Bianco for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

I-84 Collision

Motorist Jon Painter, 49, of Chapel Hill, N.C., who was driving a 2019 Toyota Prius westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 10, at about 8:34 am on May 21, attempted to change travel lanes, but struck motorist Todd Savaria, 41, of Lebanon, Conn., who was driving a 2015 Ford F-250 pickup truck, state police said.

There were no injuries. Painter received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Three Collide

Three vehicles collided in an evening rush hour accident in Dodgingtown about 5:15 pm on May 17.

Near 67 Dodgingtown Road, motorist Chunwen Luo, 47, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Prius, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Mark Hall, 18, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, stopped behind the Prius, police said. Motorist Jesse Markstaller, 22, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz S-500 sedan, then struck the rear end of the RAV-4, pushing the RAV-4 into the rear end of the Prius.

The traffic congestion was caused by the presence of the traffic signal in Dodgingtown Center. There were no injuries. Police issued Markstaller an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for failure to have a license.

Five Charges

State police report they stopped a vehicle traveling on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 7:44 am on May 11, because the vehicle had a tint cover over a marker plate.

After investigating, state police charged motorist Estuardo Selvin Rodriguez-Max, 49, of Waterbury, with driving with a falsified marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to have a driver’s license, and interfering with police. Rodriguez-Max was released on $1,000 bail for a June 13 court appearance.
