DANBURY - Danbury Hospital will host the second annual American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) Foundation Walk From Obesity on Saturday, September 24 from 8:30 am to noon at Broadview Middle School, 72 Hospital Avenue.

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital will host the second annual American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) Foundation Walk From Obesity on Saturday, September 24 from 8:30 am to noon at Broadview Middle School, 72 Hospital Avenue.

The event will include a one- to three-mile course on varied level terrain, as well as exhibits for health screening and information.  Anyone can participate, and all proceeds raised will go toward education and research for obesity and related illnesses. Anyone who cannot participate in the walk, can consider sponsoring someone who walks, or simply attend to show support for people who are working to improve the health and well-being of people in the community.

The ASBS Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to research the causes, prevention and treatment of obesity, one of the nation’s leading causes of death and disability.  The second annual ASBS Foundation Walk From Obesity is a nationwide fundraiser, which will take place in over 40 cities, to increase public awareness of the disease of obesity, the numerous physical and emotional consequences that result from it, and available treatments.

“While offering a full-service program for weight loss surgery, we are committed to supporting outreach and education that may help reduce obesity-related illness and the nearly 400,000 obesity-related deaths that occur each year, ” said Keith Zuccala, MD, medical director of the hospital’s Center for Weight Loss Surgery.
