Fall Baseball Registrations
Newtown Babe Ruth is taking registrations for fall baseball and anyone interested should call as soon as possible. Cost is $60 and the season will start (hopefully) on Sunday, September 10 and run through the end of October. Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays. Age groups are as follows - if your child played in the 6- to 7-year-old age group this spring, call Bill Kneisel at 270-6060; if your child played in the 8- to 9-year-old age group, call Roy Muraskiewicz at 270-9231; if your child played in the 10-year-old or National/American League as an 11-year-old, call Dennis LaPak at 426-6616; if your child played in the National/American League as a 12-year-old, call Debi or John Modzelewski at 426-8632; if your child played in the 13-15 age divisions, call Frank Rocca at 426-3473.
Signups For The Cage
The Cage, a complete baseball training facility in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, is accepting signups for its three Connecticut Wolfpack fall ball teams. The teams are open to recent Little League graduates, 13 to 14 years of age. Each team will play a 28-game schedule (Saturdays and Sundays) from mid-September through October against teams throughout the state. Cost is $320, which includes a full uniform. Travel Basketball Coaches
Coaches for all age levels, 5th through 8th grade (girls and boys), are needed for the Newtown Parks and Recreation travel basketball program. Anyone interested should call John Giorno at 270-9579. Also, a tournament for travel basketball players is being organized and anyone interested in helping should call Mr Giorno or Jack Shpunt at 426-1935.
Fall Baseball
The Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball midget division still has openings for its Fall Ball program. Any player born between August 1, 1994, and October 1, 1995, is eligible. Call Bill Kneisel at 270-8060 for further information. League play begins September 8.
Pomperaug Golf Classic
The second annual Pomperaug Community Golf Tournament will be held Monday, October 22, at Heritage Village in Southbury, to benefit the Christian youth groups in the area. Last year, more than $5,000 was raised to provide funds to the Pomperaug Community Youth Fund, which supported such projects as a Good Friday overnight, an alcohol-free high school graduation night, and sending a teenager going to the Dominican Republic to help out communities there. Fall Basketball Leagues
Triple Double Enterprises, Inc., has announced the formation of fall basketball leagues for players who would fit into the 30-and-over and 40-and-over divisions. The 30-and-over league will play on Monday nights while the 40-and-over league will play on Wednesday nights, both at the Police Activities League (PAL)_facility in Danbury. The Brewster Rockets girlsâ fastpitch softball organization will be holding tryouts for the 2002 season on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9, at Markel Park in Brewster, New York. September 8 â U10 and U14 players at 9 am, U16 and U12 players at 11 am, and U18 players at 1 pm; September 9 â U12 and U18 players at 9 am, U10 and U14 players at 11 am, U16 players and any others who could not make age appropriate time slots at 1 pm. 3-on-3 Hoops
The Western Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross is sponsoring a 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament on Saturday, September 8, in Danbury. There are male and female divisions for players in grades 5 and 6 and grades 7 and 8. Entry fee is $45 per team, with four players per team.
