Troop 370 Has Installation Of Officers, Participates In Klondike
On February 6, Troop 370 had a Court of Honor to install new officers. They are John Gill â Senior Patrol Leader; Chris Timmel â Assistant Senior Patrol Leader; Tim Duffy â Scribe; Dan Tichon â Quartermaster; Kenneth Picerno â Historian; Matt Klaus â Librarian; and Erin Simonds â Den Chief. In addition, Zach Silver, Rylan McCollum, and Branden Roumanis were installed as patrol leaders.
In January, Troop 370 participated in the Klondike sponsored by the Scatacook District of the Connecticut Yankee Council. At this camporee, physical and mental challenges at a series of 12 skill stations were presented to arriving patrols. Scouts were given a map and assigned a route through all âtownâ events in the woods of Hoyt Scout Reservation in West Redding. What scouts would need throughout the day outdoors in fresh snow, including for a campfire meal, was carried on an arctic sled made for the trek. Scoring was based on demonstration of scouting values of teamwork, leadership, spirit, and outdoor preparedness, as well as performance of task skills.
Like the other troops who participated, some of Troop 370 visited âtowns,â while others manned the âtownâ that Troop 370 had set up. At âHal, close the space pod doorâ obstacle course, scouts had to fashion a stretcher to carry a patrol member onto asteroid stepping stones, over a high bar spaceship hatch, and along a stone wall space station corridor of â2001: A Klondike Space Odyssey.â The boys who were on the sled were Tim Duffy, John Gill, Rylan McCollum, Kenneth Picerno, Zach Silver, Dan Tichon, and Phillip Zencey. The scouts who stayed at the town and hosted other troops were James Kaechele, Donald Row, Brian Rowe, and Chris Timmel. Troop 370âs Moose Patrol tied for fourth place out of 38 patrols.
Troop 370 always welcomes new scouts. If you are interested in visiting us, the troop meets on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 9 pm at the United Methodist Church on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook. For more information, please call Scoutmaster Bill Timmel at 426-3474 or John Gill, 426-4765.
