Theatre Organ Season Opening Concert This Weekend
The Connecticut Valley Theatre Organ Society will continue its 2000 concert season with a performance on Saturday, September 23, at 8 pm, at Shelton High School. Father Andrew Rogers will make his second appearance at Shelton in a concert of easy-to-listen-to pops music. Father Rogers, Pastor of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dearborn, Mich., has performed jazz, pops, and symphonic works before enthusiastic audiences in the US, Canada, and South Pacific.
Future performances in CVTOSâ season include âA Silent Film Weekend,â which will usher in Halloween on Saturday, October 28, at 8 pm, and Sunday, October 29, at 2 pm. On Saturday, the full-length silent film Metropolis will be shown, accompanied Ralph Ringstad on the theatre pipe organ.
Mr Ringstad will then return on Sunday for a concert of Pops theatre pipe organ music, which will include two Laurel and Hardy silent films, Habeas Corpus and Haunted Spooks. Both programs will be at Thomaston Opera House.
Then on Saturday, November 25, at 8 pm at Shelton High School, the annual Christmas concert returns with lots of popular holiday music played on the theatre pipe organ by featured artist Ralph Ringstad. It is hoped that a local high school choir, or similar youth choir, will be available to take part in the program.
Tickets for all concerts are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, students $5, and children age ten and under are admitted free. Also, ten or more tickets in advance are $8 each. For information call 426-2443, 203/ 929-4822 or 860/529-7141.
