Hawley School Student Donates To Children’s Charity

Hawley Elementary School fourth grader Will Svensson was recently recognized by staff members of the Boys & Girls Village for his efforts to get toys and gifts to the at-risk children served by the agency.

Boys & Girls Village, Inc, is a not-for-profit social service, educational and behavioral health agency, founded in 1942, serving boys and girls and their families. Boys & Girls Village, Inc has offices in Milford, Bridgeport, and Waterbury.

Boys & Girls Village Development Director Chris Carroll said, “Will did a fantastic job taking a list of gifts for our children and fulfilling that list with the help of fellow students and family.”

Afterward, Will and his mother, Jennifer, traveled to the main campus of Boys & Girls Village to deliver the gifts in person, which were received by staff member Judi Roberts.

“Will’s gifts made four of our shelter children very happy on Christmas morning,” Ms Roberts said.

Will also had the help from fellow students in Tracy Galassi’s class, who participated in a raffle to secure funds to purchase gifts. The raffle winner received homemade fudge treats.

The Boys & Girls Village, Inc, is partially supported through grants from the Department of Children and Families, HUSKY A/B reimbursement, and through the support of individuals, local businesses and corporate and private foundations.

From its community based offices in Bridgeport and Waterbury, the agency offers extended day treatment, therapeutic foster care and adoption training and support services, an outpatient clinic and in-home service programs for at-risk children and families.

Boys & Girls Village is licensed by the state Department of Children & Families, the Connecticut Department of Education and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families & Children, Inc. For more information, visit the website www.bgvillage.org.
