Toyota Vs Toyota

Police report a two-vehicle accident on southbound South Main Street, near Pecks Lane, about 5:47 pm on July 30.

Motorist Natalie Cowley, 49, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Prius, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by a 2015 Toyota Sienna minivan, which was driven by motorist Elizabeth Bolton, 22, of Trumbull.

There were no injuries. Bolton was verbally warned for following too closely.

SUV Vs SUV

State police report that on westbound Interstate 84, about 8:36 am on July 28, motorist Benjamin Morrison, 22, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler SUV, struck the rear end of a 2018 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Aaron Taveras, 27, of New York City.

Taveras reported pain but declined medical attention. Morrison received an infraction for following too closely.

Buick Vs Volvo

In congested conditions about 11:50 am on July 28 on westbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 10 interchange, motorist Charles Steward, 44, of Wilton, who was driving a 2017 Volvo XC-60 SUV, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Mark MacInnis, 25, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1997 Buick Century sedan, state police said.

A Volvo passenger reported pain, but declined medical attention. MacInnis received a infraction for following too closely.

Honda Hits BMW

At about 9:08 am on July 27, motorist Michael Frascatore, 42, of Shelton, was driving a 2006 BMW 325-I auto northward near 123 South Main Street, after which he stopped for traffic that had stopped for a road work project, police said.

Northbound motorist Sarah Grant, 18, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Honda CR-V SUV, then struck the rear end of the BMW. There were no injuries. Police gave grant a written warning for following too closely.

Heavy Traffic

In heavy traffic conditions about 4:19 pm on July 27 on eastbound Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet east of Exit 10, motorist Carol Cyr, 69, of South Windsor, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox SUV, struck the rear end of a 2013 Toyota Highlander SUV driven by Pemaul Gobindraj, 48, of Waterbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Cyr received an infraction for following too closely.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a report about 7:42 pm on July 27 from an off-duty police officer concerning a BMW X-5 SUV, which was being driven erratically northward near 315 South Main Street, after which on-duty police spotted that vehicle, which did not stop for them.

During a pursuit, the BMW nearly hit another vehicle head-on and almost struck a utility pole, police said. The BMW then stopped near 79 South Main Street.

After investigating, police charged motorist Emily Jo Wild, 50, of New Milford, with driving under the influence, engaging police in pursuit, failure to drive to the right, and failure to drive in the proper lane. Following arrest processing, Wild was released on bail for an August 13 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

About 7:46 pm on July 27, James Reagan, 38, of Newtown was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward on Sugar Street, near Ferris Acres Creamery, when the truck drove across the opposite lane and struck a tree along the westbound lane, police said. There were no injuries.

After investigating, police charged Reagan with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right. Reagan is scheduled to appear in court on August 8 to answer the charges.

Probation Violation

Town police report that at about 5 pm on July 26, they were called to the Newtown residence of Earl Feistel, 62, on an unrelated matter, after which they realized that state police at Troop A in Southbury had an arrest warrant pending against Feistel.

Town police then charged Feistel with violation of probation. After processing, Feistel was released on $5,000 bail for an August 14 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury.

DUI on Trail

Police report that at about 7:46 pm on July 26, they received a report that a Toyota Corolla sedan was being driven erratically on the walking trail at the High Meadow section of Fairfield Hills, so they went to the area to investigate.

At that time, there were pedestrians using the trail, police said. After investigating, police charged motorist Jennifer Lee Walker, 40, of Danbury, with driving under the influence and with second-degree reckless endangerment. Police found that Walker also had an arrest warrant pending against her for violation of probation. After processing, police released Walker on $5,500 bail for an August 8 court appearance.

Flagpole Intersection

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the Main Street flagpole intersection about 9:10 am on July 25.

Trucker Thein Ha, of Auburn, Mass., who was driving a 2018 Freightliner truck, was eastbound on Church Hill Road, as motorist Robert Griffin, 41, of Newtown, was driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler southward on Main Street, police said.

The Jeep was then attempting to turn left onto eastbound Church Hill Road as the Freightliner entered the southbound lane of Main Street and struck the Jeep. There were no injuries. Ha received a written warning for making an improper turn.

Commerce Road

At about 3:18 pm on July 25, Helio Oliveira Dealmeida, 65, of Danbury, who was driving a Ford Transit truck northward on Commerce Road, near Church Hill Road, struck the rear end of a trailer that was being hauled northward on Commerce Road by a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Brian Sacco, 51, of Thomaston, police said.

There were no injuries. Dealmeida received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Arrest

Police said that while they were monitoring traffic flow on Church Hill Road, near Main Street, about 7 pm on July 25, they spotted a vehicle that drove by them with no visible marker plate on it.

Police stopped the vehicle to investigate and then charged motorist Darren Bonner, 46, of New Britain, with driving under the influence, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, misuse of marker plates, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Following processing, Bonner was released on $100 bail for an August 8 court appearance.

Vacant Vehicle

Police report they responded to a complaint concerning an intoxicated motorist on Hanover Road about 9:16 pm on July 25, so they went to that area to investigate.

Police report they found a vacant vehicle along the side of that road that likely had been involved in a collision with some guardrailing alongside The Boulevard. After making some checks, police went to the residence of motorist William Hall, 62, of Newtown, and charged him with driving under the influence, evading responsibility with a motor vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

After arrest processing, police released Hall on $100 bail for a August 8 court appearance.

Drug Arrest

State police report that at about 2 am on July 24 on Interstate 84, they stopped motorist David Vaughan, 28, of Mansfield, for a traffic violation. After investigating, state police said they charged Vaughan with possession of a controlled substance of more than one-half ounce of marijuana, possession of drugs with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following arrest processing, state police released Vaughan on $2,500 bail for a court arraignment on the charges on August 6.

Two Charges

After police saw what they believed to be an incorrect marker plate on vehicle near 51 Berkshire Road at about 9:46 pm on July 24, police stopped motorist Jamie Middlebrook, 20, of New Haven, to investigate.

Police said they charged Middlebrook with driving with a suspended license and with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana. Middlebrook is scheduled to appear in court in Danbury on those charges on August 13. Newtown police said they turned over Middlebrook to New Haven police, who held a pending arrest warrant on him.

Interchange Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84 in Hawleyville at about 5:26 pm on July 23.

In that incident, motorist Melissa Tait, 43, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Honda Pilot SUV, stopped at the end of westbound I-84’s Exit 9 off-ramp, while motorist Hanjun Zhang, 46, of Newtown, was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion sedan southward on Hawleyville Road, police said.

The Honda then attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Hawleyville Road, but the two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Tait was verbally warned for failure to grant the right of way after stopping at a stop sign.
