Sister Isabelle Marie Crowley

Sister Isabelle Marie Crowley, 86, a member of the Sisters of St Joseph, West Hartford, died August 5 at the Provincial House of the Sisters of St Joseph in West Hartford. She had been in religious life for 68 years. Born in Hartford, on February 1, 1921, Sister Isabelle grew up in Bristol. She was a daughter of George Cornelius Crowley and Isabelle Mary (Terrien) Crowley.

In July of 2000 Sister Isabelle Marie moved to St Rose of Lima Convent in Newtown where she remained until becoming a resident of the Sisters of St Joseph Infirmary in October 2004.

Sister Isabelle Marie entered the Sisters of St Joseph, on February 2, 1939, and celebrated her perpetual profession of vows on August 23, 1944. Her entire religious life was spent in the field of education. This apostolate took her to several schools and parishes in the Archdiocese of Hartford, the Dioceses of Bridgeport and Norwich, and also the Diocese of Springfield, Mass.

In addition to her Sisters in community, Sister Isabelle Marie is survived by her brother, Robert Crowley of West Hartford; a dear cousin, Joseph Terrien of Plainville; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Kallinich.

Her funeral services were held on August 7 from the Convent Mary Immaculate, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Joseph’s Chapel. Interment was in the Sisters of St Joseph Cemetery, West Hartford.
