The American Engineering Association has recognized the contribution to the engineering and high-tech occupations by giving an Honorary Life Membership to Sandy Hook resident Jerome M. Zeifman.
Mr Zeifman was the General Counsel during the Watergate hearings and helped write and pass the civil rights bill of President Lyndon Johnson. His book, Without Honor: Crimes of Camelot and the Impeachment of President Nixon tells the story of the impeachment hearings from inside the House Judiciary Committee staff. Hillary Clinton was on his staff at that time.
The Newtown resident was one of the founding members of the âDemocrats for Doleâ when Senator Robert Dole ran for president against Bill Clinton. In addition, Mr Zeifman has written many columns for various national publications.
Mr Zeifman taught law for a number of years at Santa Clara University. As attorney for the National Council for Industrial Defense he filed a law suit against the Department of Defense to curtail the purchase of foreign components and systems.
The American Engineering Association was a party to that lawsuit, and its representatives were often invited to use Mr Zeifmanâs home in Washington, D.C., during lobbying trips, according to a release.
Mr Zeifman also wrote by-laws for the American Engineering Association and has supported the associationâs position on preserving American jobs for citizens. He has written many letters to Congress on AEAâs behalf.
