IRS Problem Solving Day

HARTFORD — The IRS will reach out to Connecticut taxpayers on Saturday, May 20, in a special effort to solve long-term tax problems.

Connecticut Problem Solving Day will be held from 9 am until 3 pm at the IRS district office at 135 High Street in Hartford. Taxpayers can call 860/756-4566 to make appointments.

“We are always solving taxpayers’ problems, but on May 20 taxpayers can get a face-to-face meeting with an IRS employee, with key decision makers on hand to cement solutions,” said acting IRS district director William Caine.

The IRS began holding Problem Solving Days in 1997 following concerns about taxpayer problems. Issues typically involve audits, collection matters, and requests to reconsider penalties. Hartford is one of a number of cities that will hold a Problem Solving Day on May 20.

Taxpayers who have unresolved tax problems but who cannot attend a Problem Solving Day can get help at any time from the local IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service office by calling 877/777-4778.
