Sunshine To Headline Annual Celebrate Sandy Hook Concert
The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) announces the fifth annual Celebrate Sandy Hook, an outdoor concert scheduled for Sunday, May 20, at 6 pm, at Village Green, 5 Glen Road.
The 2018 headliner is Braiden Sunshine, a 17-year-old singer-songwriter. He was also a semifinalist on the hit show The Voice in 2015.
According to his website, "Braiden got his start in music at a very young age. At 5 years old Braiden began singing in his church choir before quickly moving on to join forces with other like-minded/talented musicians and releasing their self-titled debut in 2012."
Braiden launched his solo touring career and plays venues along the Eastern seaboard. He has opened for large national acts, including Blues Traveler and Huey Lewis.
Prior to Sunday's concert, Braiden will meet and rehearse with students from Reed Intermediate School and Jockey Hollow Middle School. Students from each of the schools will perform a song at the beginning of the concert, followed by Braiden's set. The evening will conclude with a special rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine," performed by Braiden with all of the students.
SHOP President Mike Burton says everyone is invited "to come and celebrate Sandy Hook and its unique historic heritage and beautiful natural setting."
Concertgoers can dine in one of the restaurants, stop in shops, then pull up a chair by the riverside and enjoy the music and festive atmosphere. Bringing a picnic dinner is encouraged.
"SHOP is confident that this year's 'Celebrate Sandy Hook' concert will be the best event yet," Mr Burton added. "We continue to help revitalize the village by bringing an arts and culture into beautiful Sandy Hook Village."
