Newtown Rotary Honors NHS Student

Anna Marie Bingaham was named Newtown High School Student of the Month and honored by the Newtown Rotary Club. This was based on her many achievements including being a member of the National honor Society, being awarded the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law, and her involvement in school and community services.

Anna attends the Monroe Dance Academy and will participate in a spring recital of jazz dance and will perform in a spring ballet dance recital at the high school. She also participates in the C.H. Booth Library program for young children, serves as a volunteer at the library’s food booth during the Labor Day parade, and works at the library for nine hours each week.

Each month Anna spends a day at the Connecticut Post newspaper in Bridgeport as a journalist where she writes a story, which is subsequently published in the paper. In the same field, she serves as a journalist for the high school newspaper, The Hawkeye.

As a member of the Newtown High color guard, Anna marched in the St Patrick’s Day parade in New York City, where they won the grand championship. Being a member of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD), she helped to raise money to send to other organizations to support the campaign against drunk driving.

Mr Jay Daly, a teacher at Newtown High, who introduced Anna, stated that he was proud to be able to take part in honoring such a well-rounded and accomplished student.
