Ruth E.          Hirst

Ruth E. Hirst, 84, of Clinton, formerly of Southbury and Newtown, died December 26 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Born March 21, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of William and Edna (Hoag) Thomson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard A. Hirst.

She is survived by her children, Pamela Hirst and her husband Amir Dehestani of Clinton, and Stephen Hirst and his wife Dalila of Neves, Calif., and granddaughter Ariana Dehestani. Mrs Hirst is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Boepple of Carle Place, N.Y.

Ruth attended Pratt Institute in New York before enlisting into the US Marine Corps and serving during World War II.

She was a former employee of American Airlines where she met her husband Richard, and later she retired as a deputy tax assessor in Newtown.

She was a former member of Newtown Choral Society, an avid reader, and enthusiast of New York City’s theaters and diverse culture.

The family was scheduled to receive friends from 5 pm on Thursday, December 30, until the time of the funeral service at 7 pm at Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main Street, Clinton, with the Rev Russell Allen officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Newtown Cemetery.
